Old dog returning. Help me learn new tricks?

So I've only just returned to the game after an extended break and I've honestly forgotten a lot about the game.

What I would like from you experts out there is a character build that is relatively newbie friendly, but also useful to the party so that I can group up with others and not feel useless. My goal is to get to max level, get a feel for the game again and then decide what role I want to fill. My account still has a fairly decent chunk of currency on it and I have access to 32pt builds and all classes and stuff. I'm subscribed, so there wont be any restrictions.

I don't have any requirements other than those (easy to play, useful in groups, not terribly complicated) so whatever class you personally think fits the bill, go ahead and post. I'd love a build with as much detail as possible because, as I said, I've forgotten most about the game.

lotta solid builds there, and you can pick your poison.

if you like simple play, id recommend a nice, uncomplicated barbarian. hit things with axe till they stop moving.

Ok, so the idea of playing a new race is very appealing.

But I just don't remember enough about feats and skills to feel confident to build it myself. I've gone over the thread posted by stille_nacht and all of those seem to be from around 2010. Isn't there something more modern that someone can recommend? I've looked through the boards but I haven't found anything made for a Half Orc.
