same goes for ddo, why do we, the players that spend hard earned money on a game, get access to the adventure packs we buy (the loaf) but you take away our right to immediately enter hard or elite modes? (the bag)

with that said, i think its selfish and unfair not to let the players that pay insane amounts of money on turbine points for lousy adventure packs not to get the full benefit.
The adventure pack is the bread, and opening on elite is the butter.

    Butter is a VIP benefit.

If you spend "insane amounts of money" on points, perhaps youd be interested in VIP - 10 bucks a month. ~30 cents per day.

Yeap exactly. People keep asking to obtain the benefits of VIP without also accepting the drawbacks of VIP as well. People also keep shying away from this point and acting like there are no drawbacks at all. If they think its not fair that VIP "has it all" while P2P gets the shaft, then VIP is the SOLUTION to their issue, and not the PROBLEM. Want the benefits of VIP? Go VIP.

For just 30 cents a day you could guarantee that all 10 of these toons in your character slots would have a hot meal of bread and butter.........just 30 cents a day......won't you help?

I agree, except for the fact that they "want there cake and eat it too." They want VIP benefits, but want to "own" the content, not just "rent" it.

So OP, what is more important, opening on Elite, or "owning" the content?

to get the most xp you really want to do N/H/E anyway. Of course if this is an end game pack it's irrelevant.

    Amen.

Shell out the $10 a month. That really isn't that much, even if you play very casually that's like 25 cents for an hour of good entertainment, where else can you get that value?

There are pros and cons to being a VIP, if I don't keep my subscription I just flushed all my money down the toilet and have nothing again when I unsub. All companies need a STEADY stream of income to survive, and people who subscribe to the game provide that steady income. So we get some cool stuff! As we should. When we stop providing that steady stream of income, we lose all the benefits we had, unless we purchased them. As we should.

Yes, but let's hearken back a bit.

Before there was the F2P model, all content had to be run on Normal to open Hard then on Hard to open Elite. We used to run our little hineys hither, thither and yon getting this done. Then the F2P model came, and soon(tm) after they introduced the VIP open on Elite ability.

I look at it as a perq that Turbine gave to VIPs after most having to go about it the hard way. The newer crowd that is now entering the game doesn't seem to understand the difference between a right (everyone gets it) and a perq (given to a few).

It's a perq of VIP monthly subscriptions. If it were a right, anyone who ever was a VIP would have it.

    Exclamation Privilege not Right

Sorry OP you paid for a quest pack not privilege of elite opening, and it is a PRIVILEGE (a power, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most).

I'm premium, I own all races, all but 2 adv packs, and all but 1 class and as far as I can tell VIP's advantages over me are matters of convenience only.

    to use your analogy:

the free to play player (poor person) walks into the shop and hands over some government vouchers and gets a loaf of bread (and the bag), unfortunately they have to save up for the butter to go on the bread.

the premium player (person with money) walks into the shop and buys the loaf of bread. take it home to make some samwiches because they already have butter at home.

the vip player walks into the shop - the shop keepr says hi sir, ive got this new bread in - its ready sliced and because were such good freinds come into the back and ill make you a tasty sammich so you can tell all your freinds how nice this bread is.

Im premium, i used to be vip. Ive got freinds with all diferent types of accounts. If you want the perks of vip then go vip - stop expecting evrything handed to you for free. Turbine already does an amazing job of making their game as affordable as posible to the masses. If anything vip doesnt have enough perks.

wouldnt it make it easyier to favour farm if everyone could just open quests on elite?

Maybe thats one reason they dont want to open it to just anyone? And it would make sense?

Why didn't this thread's title start with PSA? At least then I know I can ignore a pointless rant...

me too. instead i got a random thread about how somehow you only get half the content because you can't imediatly run elite.

I kind of understand what your saying but really VIPS get the shaft and this is one of the only real bonus's imo so it sould stay as is.

I used to be vip but saw really no benefit in staying so, sence going premium the elite opening is the only thing ive missed.

VIP is a bad enough deal without taking away one of the very very few perks that they actually get.

Absolutely no to non-VIP opening quests on elite straight off.
