Default Need advice on monk gear.

Background: Im somewhat new to the game. Ive messed around with it and decided to pay for a month of vip. I wanted to play a monk because Ive always liked them since I played one in everquest. I went with a dex/wis light monk mainly for soloing normal quest for leveling. Ones I unlock 32 point builds ill do the thing to make my monk a 32 point build.

My starting stats were 12/16/14/8/14/8 and currently they are 15/22/12/8/16/8 (in wind stance w/gear).

My Gear now at level 6 is:

    Head: Grakitch's Skullcap
    Eyes: Trapblast Goggles
Armor: Lesser Fire Guard Outfit of Invulnerability
    Bracers: Black Widow Bracers
    Ring 1: Acrobat's Ring
    Ring 2: Dexterous +2 Ring
    Feet: Anger's Step
    Belt: Gatewarden's Girdle
    Back: Cloak of Protection +1
    Hands: empty
    Neck: Anger's Gift
    Handwraps: +3 Handwraps

Now with my lack of knowledge with the game Im trying to find somewhat of a gear guide I can use as a reference while leveling. I prefer to solo normals for now, I dont have a guild or any friends yet and dont want to get kicked out of groups for not knowing content so learning is nice. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be fantastic.

You shouldn't be getting kicked out of any groups unless they were the "TR/zerg" type groups anyway. Most normal groups, that I've been in, don't care what you have for gear. As long as you're trying, it's good enough.

As for a "gear guide", just go with the best stuff you have for your level. Use the AH if you have some plat left over. Try out the crafting system. Mostly, just keep doing quests and use the loot that's beneficial. Most gear guides are built around raids/epic gear which means they don't benefit you.

This guide is a bit dated now, but it has some good general advice (note Mobeius has biases that show through in his guide, but there is still good info there).

You might also find the DDO Wiki's article on Monk equipment useful.

As you level up, just keep your eyes open for the best gear you can find/afford at your level. You'll obviously want Str, Dex, Con and Wis items, plus handwraps and AC. You won't find better armour bracers for a while. For Ability items, they max out at +6 at Minimum Level 13 (for something with no extra useless effects to push the ML up), and each +1 is worth 2 levels (so +5 is ML 11, etc). You can get +3 ability items with ML 5 from some quest chains, like Tangleroot.

You'll probably want handwraps of stunning, the best you can find. Also handwraps with good damage effects, like flaming of pure good, or holy. You can get holy handwraps as an end reward from the Delera Chain. There are niche weapons too, like ghost touch, but they're not as important.

Striding items are nice, for getting around even faster, and you might want to find accessories of False Life / Improved False Life, to boost your HP.

At low level Red Fens offers some decent gear. The gloves and bracers of the claw are decent and so is raven's sight. Gear from the Chronoscope raid is another good choice. Some bracers to look for is Jidz-Tetka from the House Deneith chain. You have to upgrade it from the Torn Chitin Bracers with 3 different seals from the quests. The upgraded items from the Sora Kell set are very nice also at level 12.

The Vampiric Stonedust handwraps are very good for their level, though you will replace them with +10 stuning handwraps at some point.

There are a couple options for heavy fortification at lower level; the Nightforge Gorget (level 9) and the Minos Legens (level 11). This is really important as it makes you immune to critical hits and sneak attack damage.

Most of the other "good" gear is easier to acquire after level 16. Ah I almost forgot; I think one of my friends said that you can craft no min level outfit of invulnerability so you could do that and add something else useful to it later maybe. I'm not sure how high a crafting level it takes, but probably fairly low.
