If you could make an electronic helper for the 2 (Wernicke's and Broca's areas) language centers and implant them you could not only give everyone a "Rosetta Stone Implant" you could give language function to those people with damage and disorders like autism....heck you could probably also download accents.

... One good solar flare later, Earth magnetic shift that for a time gets rid of the Van Allen belts, etc...

And we'd all be jibbering idiots.

Let alone what effect tazer's would have on them.

"""After studying the chemical interactions that allow short-term learning and memorization in rats, a group of scientists lead by Dr. Theodore Berger—from the University of South California's Viterbi School of Engineering—have built a prosthetic chip that uses electrodes to enhance and expand their memory abilities. The chip is capable of storing neural signals, basically functioning as an electronic memory""

Potheads around the world just got a bit happier reading this. but then after 30 seconds forgot why!!!

It would take a hell of a change to affect something so very well insulated. We can affect neurons up to 2 cm deep in the brain with a field density of 2 teslas (20k gauss)...well, less a bit, that's the rating of the commercial transcranial magnetic stimulators (which replaces direct shocks in electroconvulsive shock therapy), by comparison the Earth's magnetic field is 0.000063 tesla at the strongest, the poles whereas within a sunspot you apparently hit around 0.15 tesla.

A tazer, though, yeah that could be rough.

A tazer...well...we wouldnt need those, we could just "Force Shutdown"

Triple firewall protection and staying in Autistic mode here to prevent anyone hacking my ghost. Physical inputs alone don't provide enough space for people to think before they spew their ridiculous ideas all over the place. Think how bad it would be if we had neural-level direct input onto forums.

Also, imagine 5 voices, inside your head, yelling "NEWB!" cause you sneezed during a Shadowcrypt run and died, ruining everyone's XP.

Also, recommended enjoyable reading on the subject: Metagame.

Is this a Luddite quote of some kind? I don't recognize it.

Speaking of the flesh, though, yes, we can eventually know exactly what is on our minds, all it takes is defining all the neural connections, firing behavior, neural reorganization & assembly, biochemical reactions...the how and what of receptor remodeling w/the concurring gene transcription/translation/modifications....there's a lot of this that we do know so far. If you can define the system parameters you can define and alter the system.

Other neural things that have already been done.

cybereye...is that up to 32 pixels and they're working on 256-ish or are they past that now? I thing the first attempt was 8 or 16 pixels of on/off....for a blind person.

remote control of animals...rats, pigeons, cockroaches and the dogfish shark

    remote viewing of visual input...cats

direct neural interface to control external device...rhesus monkeys

neurally-controlled and sensation from an artificial limb (efferent and afferent nerves connected to a chip)...human

We can use an inkjet printer to layer cells onto a tissue scaffold...lots of other fun stiff.

There's a lot we can already do....just not at your favorite local elective surgery clinic.

    Yet.
