Default 12Cleric/6Fighter/2Monk Radiant Arcane Zen Kensai Archer

Okay, this is my first shot at a totally custom build, so please be gentle. My goals were:

    1) Self-healing
    2) Arcane Archer
    3) Radiant Servant
    4) Evasion

The original plan was to do an 18/2 Clonk, but I ran out of feats. I figured adding some levels of Fighter would be handy for extra feats and BAB, and picked up Kensai one in the process. It's not going to be healing much other than itself, but should be able to do that competently. I solo a lot, so self-healing is the main reasoning for Cleric, with a better spell selection than FvS. I've got a stash of saved q-staffs for melee, since the unarmed attack won't be superior to a swung staff. I went with the Clever Monkey for the small bonus to saves vs. traps to buff evasion. I took level ups in Wis to add to offensive DCs, kiting with arrows through blade barriers sounded like a fun time.

    Questions:

    Less Cleric, more Fighter/Monk?
    FvS > Cleric?
    Helf > Elf?
    Trash the whole thing?
Already extant build that does the same thing, better?

For a mostly-cleric AA, have a look at the Radiant Archer in my sig. The "secret ingredient" is a wiz splash, which lets you drop Mental Toughness and gain a free meta feat - effectively a net gain of 2 feats over monk 2 / cleric 18. You do give up RadServ III if & when it ever comes out, though.

For a cleric 12-based build, I came up with this:

    Code:
Character Plan by DDO Character Planner Version 3.9.1
    DDO Character Planner Home Page

Level 20 Lawful Neutral Elf Female
    (2 Monk \ 6 Ranger \ 12 Cleric)

The thing to remember is this build is an AA who can act as a backup healer / buffer, not a cleric who can use a bow. As such, the main thing I don't like about it is she doesn't have more meta feats; but I'd have to give up either ranged or melee feats to get them.

Personally, I like Unbongwah's dual investment in ranged and melee.

However, are Power Attack and gTWF really better than Empower + Maximize? Divine Punishment and Blade Barrier alone would be more useful for a kiting combat style, I would think.

I'm also wondering what the tradeoff is between ranged to-hit and damage. Would it be better to put level ups into Dex for the reflex save and ranged to-hit? -3 damage in exchange for +3 to-hit...

PA is a monk bonus feat; I could trade it for, say, Zen Archery or another Toughness, but I can't swap it for an extra meta. GTWF, Imp Prec Shot, and Prec Shot are all eligible for the chop, though. When it comes to the no-save light spells, my concern is (A) what enhs do I drop to boost the Smiting line (APs wind up pretty tight) and (B) by the time I get them, are they of any use, given that my cleric lvls are all delayed by 8 lvls? Same with Blade Barrier: she doesn't get it until lvl 19, her DCs will be quite low, and at best she'll cast it as a lvl 12 cleric at endgame. Ultimately I decided the DPS spells would strain the build too much; if I swapped in another meta or two, it would be for extra healing oomph, not DPS.
I'm also wondering what the tradeoff is between ranged to-hit and damage. Would it be better to put level ups into Dex for the reflex save and ranged to-hit? -3 damage versus +3 to-hit...
My hope is that having at least DEX 28 + BAB 20 (Divine Power) + whatever other buffs I get (Inspire Courage or Greater Heroism, Recitation, Divine Favor, etc.) would provide enough to-hit. Likewise I would hope all my saves would be 30+ once fully buffed (+3 from +6 stat items, +2 Luck, +4 Greater Heroism, +5 Resistance, etc.) making them adequate if not great.

    And thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, that's a bummer. Zen Archery would give you the ability to stay in stance, but without any way to spend the Ki, I don't think the stance is better than PA.

    ...
Sure, Stryde got a lot of use from BB and DP with only 12 cleric levels at level 20. The key is to only use it when you're being swarmed. Of course, I front-load the cleric levels to get them as quickly as possible. I wouldn't give up the Prec/Imp Prec shot, though - that's a big part of this build.

I would love to fit in both Maximize and Empower on Stryde, but Maximize alone is pretty good. The only drawback is the extra spell point consumption from casting Mass Cure Moderate, but Heal + bursts is usually all I need.

As far as the AP goes, I don't take more than Cleric Prayer of Life I/Cleric Prayer of Incredible Life I to qualify for RS2, and normally only take the first rank of Cleric Wand and Scroll Mastery I. At the same time, I only put in one rank of the Cleric Smiting I.

Sounds good to me - Stryde prefers to use spells + melee, and only pulls out a bow when I'm tired of chasing stuff, so I don't normally pay attention to the to-hit for ranged. Of course, he's a Weapon Finesse build, so it wouldn't do me any good to pay attention to it, as it's already as high as I can make it.

Quick question: Does a Drow have the possibility of AA, without being ranger? I mean, it is an elf, but maybe it doesnt count. The DDO wiki is not clear...

    Thanks.

Nope: only elves & half-elves get the racial AA enhs; everyone else has to be a ranger.

Ok, thanks. It was my only hope for a gimped cleric drow, I will reroll.

The thing to remember is this build is an AA who can act as a backup healer / buffer, not a cleric who can use a bow. As such, the main thing I don't like about it is she doesn't have more meta feats; but I'd have to give up either ranged or melee feats to get them.
I like your ideas, and this is definitely an AA who happens to have some healing skills. I'm having tremendous fun with my build, but as I'm still in low levels I'm seeing if rebuilding with ranger levels in place of fighter would be worthwhile. I'm thinking not, as it ultimately pushes Manyshot to level 14.

    12 rngr 6 cleric 2 monk?

    12rngr-gtwf, range feats, gives sp
    6 cleric gives sp
2 monk=2 feats, zen archery, toughness?

when i generated this, it had about 700 sp w/o taking mental toughness. it could be a decent backup healer.
