    Default Kuni's Survey: Sneak

This question is primarily for the Sarlona community, Please identify your server if you are not from Sarlona.

What is your perspective on how and when "Sneak" should be utilized?

You may include other subjects if and only if relevant to Sneak i.e. Move Silently, Hide, etc.

Edit* To clarify, the question on use of sneak is NOT limited to Rogues.

Sneak can be effective in many areas if played out by knowledgeable players. Sneak is effective for trap-laying and ambushes, it can be effective for swimming past enemies that would otherwise see or hear you. Sometimes invisibility can't cut it or sometimes you don't want the hate initially. Sneak is under-rated and under-utilized imho.

I play on Khyber, and I use stealth quite a bit - mostly when soloing.

I also play in a static group once a week on Ghallanda, and use it a lot in that group as well.

Agreed, but it's just so hard to do it effectively in a pug most of the time.

I am from Argonessen, where obviously sneak has another rules.

I just cannot play a rogue without sneaking some times. I have fun making a bit of roleplay now and then.
"Would I pass through without being notice?" soloing, with a squishy flavor rogue is quite adrenaline pushing.
Also if you are lvl. 18-19-20, skipped all the time proof is in the poison and you want to sneak through on elite and take the favour.

    Pulling only.

I almost always do "kill everything" Claw's for extra scroll chances.

I mainly use it for soloing the “stealth or messy” quests (Diplomatic Impunity, Frame Work, Undermine, Monastery) and the the “sneak to the end and win” quests (Claw, Stealthy Repo). In groups, I like it for the “combat engineer” quests (Made to Order, Shadow Knight).
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

depends. in groups, i almost never use it except on my assassin rogue (for assassinate), or on any of my rogues when i'm in the lead (it slows me down, lets the meatshields get in front, without me having to slow down :P )

solo is a fair bit different, it can be quite useful in many quests. i'm no ghoste, but i'll use it when convenient to skip stuff in various quests.

You have to pay attention to where the Kobolds are looking, and wait for them to face away from you. As soon as you hit the lever, redo your sneak and if you're lucky, they won't notice you.

Be careful not to touch a Kobold as you pass, and avoid walking in the centre of the room.

Just note that at level, it's not easy to get high enough hide/move silently to do it efficiently without a lot of twink gear (like BTA +5 items from Sharn).

I have chars on Sarlona.....one is lvl 16.

How players shoudl use it? Or how Turbine should make it work?

We "should" be able to run around a corner and jump into the bushes and watch monsters run right on by.....

    Players:

My most common useage is to snatch soul stones out from under the noses of an army of monsters.

My second most used time is for my Rogue, who is almost always in sneak mode, off to the side of the group. (even in Devil Assault)

The idea is to not get initial agro, and not to be hit by monsters tryiing to hit someone else. Then pounce form behind.

It is hard to separate Invisibility and sneak. Sadly, Invis is more useful than sneak.
But getting to explorer areas undamaged is nice.

Recalling from some dungeons in Sneak mode is smart. Unfortuanately you may get beat up anyway, because your friends did not do so.

Red Willow's, when going through the portal.

Dropping down in Coal Chamber. or through holes in New Invasion.

    Swimming in the Vale.

Like I mentioned, Invis is actually easier to use in a group than sneak.

You can run ahead, and jump right before a corner, enter sneak mode, come around the corner, and charm a single monster in a mob.
But actually, you can probably just come around the corner and charm one and get the same results anyway.
In either case, no actual ranks in Hide/MS are required.

Simply being in sneak mode reduced detection distance. No ranks required.

For the maze challenged casters who want to pre-stage a the crystal. A shadow mage type works well here, and is guaranteed not to be a target from the Devil boss.
Even if the party has to re-kill everything several times.

A Shadowmage can explore the Sub-T more easily than any other class IMO.
("you grab Xoriat Orb and begin to dance" )

    PUGing.
Seriously, some groups just love to draw un-expected agro. Being in sneak mode off to the side can really increase your ability to survive the un-expected.

Going Invis while trying to potion/wand heal back to fighting strength, can be a big help. Random Agro mobs may sometimes totally forget about you, as they change to someone else in the party.
Sometimes sneak can do this too. But you do not get knocked out of Invis mode.

Waiting to pull levers in Genesis. Wandering Orthons may walk right on by and never know you are there.

Those ideas should give you a good start.

    I always disagree with this.

it just means you have to do it faster.

30% Striders and Faster Sneaking IV really help a lot.

Related to sneak is Invis scrolls/pots/clickies. You can run along at full speed while Invised.
Drop to sneak at the last second to pull off some kind of trick.

Zerge-sneaking actually does not require any investment in Hide/MS though. Most of it is simply using sneak mode to not get initial agro. And to pull off something while the monsters are attacking someone else.

Then there is getting PUG Soul Stones.
