    Default Games?

    So, my main tower died a couple weeks ago, and I'm having to make due for the time being with an old Gateway E machine with integrated graphics. I'm on win 7 pro sitting on 1 gig of ram and a Intel Celeron 2.4 ghz cpu atm. Suggestions for games I can actually run on this PoC in the meantime?

    Have you tried DDO on the lowest graphic settings?

    Unfortunately you're looking at really old stuff otherwise, some of the Command & Conquer games are fairly easy on the rig and I have The First Decade on my laptop for when I can't get an internet connection. I'd assume your back-up PC could manage those too.

    Win 7 on such a system? :O

    Quite like my old system, just without proper graphics card. And doubt DDO will work, tried with the integrated card in my old. 2 FPS on lowest settings. :P

    But still, should be able to run plenty of good old games.

    WHat are your preferences concerning games? During the last 40+ years a lot of games have been released. So it's hard to make an apropriate suggestion.

    Try, as suggested, DDO on the lowest grafix settings. Your computer has similar specs as my old one (with the exception of the grafix card). Questing should be fine. Raids are going to be a lagfest for you though.

    If you're looking for some CRPGs then you could try the old Bioware stuff (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc.).

    If you don't like Minesweeper, my Win7 Ultimate came with Mahjong Titans. I don't know if that comes with every version of Win7, but it passes the time.

    Antbuster is rather addictive, and I don't think takes a lot of resources.
    My wife plays Pandemic II - which may or may not be your cup of tea.
    Travian is like the slowest MMORTS that you can play.

    Mahjong's on my laptop with Vista as well so I'd guess it's on everything from Vista onwards.

    Good game, spent a few hours on flights abroad with the internet switched off playing it but it does start to drag pretty fast.

    Another option is the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale series. May be a little hard to get hold of but obviously you're sorta into that kind of thing.

    Very handy although I have all the originals already. I'm an old nostalgic hoarding so-and-so.

    One of my old favourites is Master of Orion II, which should run on about any computer nowadays. I still have the CD somewhere...

    On Thelanis: Makkuroi - Heroic+Epic completionist, 30+ Past lives - Guild: Zeugen der Dreizehn

    LOL Awful graphics, but it was a surprisingly fun game. Then again, I had just taken all four wisdom teeth out and was on killer painkillers when it got infected, so...

    Have you tried running DDO on your machine?

    I run DDO on this system currently:

    * Windows 7 Ultimate
    * Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ 1.80 GHz
    * Installed memory: 1.25 GB
    * System type: 32-bit Operating System
    * Wireless
    * 111 GB hard disk
    * NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT

    Some people are completely surprised that I can run DDO at all, but I do. My biggest problem is that it takes forever at the loading screen sometimes.

    You never know? It might run a bit laggy, but it might run.
    You are responsible for your own DDO experience.

    Thanks for all the suggestions. In response to various people:

    I like adventure games similar to DDO, fantasy based usually. Chicky isn't into fps's etc.

    I thus far have been unable to run any mmorpg I play. I believe this is due to the integrated graphics... it's my understanding stand alone graphic cards have ram dedicated specifically to graphics, whereas integrated graphics do not, which results in a problem rendering anything 3d and/or with textures.

    Only OS I have is a 3 license version of win 7 pro, so that's what I'm using on the backup for now. It's working somehow though... surprised me too.

    As for penguin slapping... my daughter would never, ever, forgive me.
