PSA Grease does not waste a valuable spell slot

Hi,
I just wanted to let aspiring Sorcs of levels 1-20 know, that the Spell Grease (Grease). does not indeed take up a spot better used for DPS spells.

I don't want to be rude and point out how annoying it is during a Tempest run when neither Sorc has it, and when questioned, one replies that it is a waste of a Spell slot for a Sorc, so I won't.

I also won't point out how many of your Sorc SP's could -perhaps- be put to better use than you casting Lightning Bolts at the drow/giant ( I know I know, you threw a polar ray or two as well, I don't want to suggest you're a one trick pony)


Seriously though, 2 Sorcs neither carries Grease. Is this a new thing? is my Grease (and forgive me, extend) carrying Sorc breaking some new optimal design build? Am I missing out on some better than grease level 1 DPS spell?

You have run into people that refuse to carry grease? It really is getting out of hand. I know those metal dogs can try to pick up the slack, but there is no substitute to having a real person decide when and where to cast grease.

I flippn hate grease. I almost hate is as much as sleet storm. Gotta say though, you wanna really tick off the melee you whip that sh** into em lol. It's been awhile since I greased a melee though.....

I am actually not sure whether or not you guys are serious lol. That being said, my wizard carries grease all the time lol.

Edit: nothing compares to greasing the fire trap of tempest spine lol... except maybe greasing the boss lol.

I am getting so sick of the melees out there who want me to give them every single buff there is!! Hello, grease comes on a clickie. They are easy to get, my kensai has several of them in fact. They are a well known party buff and by the time you are running Tempest Spine you should have learned how to be self-sufficient enough and carry at least one grease clicky. They work just as well as the spell I bet, so please stop telling my sorcerer to cast it on the party when you can just do it yourself. /end rant.

I can honestly say 100% truth I have yet to ever see another person cry out we need grease lol.

And whats with all the super ****ed off people on the forums lately? Theirs not alot but did 6 people have a bad pug and came here to rant against one another?

I had it happen to me. We were in The Faithful Departed, and had no arcane. We reached the end room, and the barbarian rushed in before we managed to range what could be ranged, aggroed everything and kited it to the ladder before dying.
Luckily we had some mummies saved, so it wasn't auto fail, but we ended up with a large mob of monsters at the bottom of the ladder, including two or three clerics healing everything faster than we could dps them at range. And going into the melee was too suicidal.
Of course, a FW in the middle would solve the issue, but we had no arcane. Someone suggested grease- if it tripped their clerics, we would be able to kill stuff. Alas, noone had any.

Eventually we won, though it wasn't easy, we literally had to focus all of our ranged dps on the same target, at the same time, while buffed with everything we still had available (rage and haste from clickies) to overcome their healing. After the first one died, the rest was much easier.
I try to carry at least a grease clickie whenever I can.

Fortunately, ALL of my melees carry grease clickies. Some even have multiples. Plus, the u9 pass upgraded clicky grease to last 21 seconds instead of ~10, so we can have moar grease!

Grease is cool, but sleet storm is better. It lets the rogues do sneak attacks!

don't forget to put a globe of invulnerability on top, for those party ****ers with freedom of movement

Edit: Seriously tho, grease IS useful IF we have FOM AND the mobs don't. If the DC scaled with level it would be a great spell.
