Default Monitor going into power saver mode CONSTANTLY while playing Turbine games

Since the last updates for both LOTRO and DDO, my game randomly and several times a day, sometimes within a few minutes, sometimes within hours, crashes, with my monitor forcibly going into power saver mode, and I have to reboot the computer and the game. This is utterly annoying and it has never happened before. I have cleaned the inside of my PC, including the fans, updated video drivers, left the computer off for a full day to make sure it wasn't an overheating problem, and done everything else under the sun I can think of. This issue has something to do with their update making something incompatible with my video settings I'm thinking. I've even tried low graphics settings, smaller resolutions, etc., and the problem persists. PLEASE fix this issue or I can't play this game. I have rebooted my computer due to this issue 50 to 100 times in the last few weeks, and I'm not doing it any more. I'll play something else before I let these problems screw up my computer from forced shutdowns.

Does the crash happen only when zoning into a new area in the game, or pretty much whenever?

To completely rule out overheating, you could run the game with the PC case completely wide open. There are also free programs that monitor temperature.

My first suggestion would be to go into DDO and LotRO and reset all of the graphics settings to default. You can even do that through the launcher program. Then go into your computer's graphics properties and make sure that everything is set to application-controlled. Then go back into the games themselves and disable anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering.

Have you added any new hardware to your computer since you bought it? Dell is notorious for underpowering their systems, so experiencing weird problems like this after adding new hardware could be a warning that the power supply is strained or dying.

    Any time.

To completely rule out overheating, you could run the game with the PC case completely wide open. There are also free programs that monitor temperature.

I've done this and it's not the problem. I've also kicked up the AC until I'm freezing in my apt. and it still happens. I've left it off for a whole day, and upon logging on, crashed within minutes. My PC is not overheated.

I've already reset graphics to default, also set them to optimal, also tried medium and low settings. All resolutions tried. Nothing fixes this. It's a Turbine issue with their update. I've had ZERO problems until their most recent updates.

Have you added any new hardware to your computer since you bought it? Dell is notorious for underpowering their systems, so experiencing weird problems like this after adding new hardware could be a warning that the power supply is strained or dying.

I've added nothing and it's not an issue with my computer.

There is no way your monitor could be going into power saver mode if you are using your mouse.

Give more details as to exactly what happens and when.

    1) What is your toon doing (standing still ,melee combat, spells, teleporting, zoning)
    2) What is the temperature of your CPU and GPU? Many programs on the net to find this out
    3) Do you have antivirus running when this happens? Try shutting it off
    4) Try running in windowed mode to see if there is a popup message that you are missing (alt+enter in game to enter windowed mode)
    5) Do you switch toons a lot? There is a known bug (memory leak) that swapping toons and entering a new zone will crash the client.
    6) Open a browser before starting DDO. You say the monitor goes into power saver mode but perhaps it's just a black screen. Try to alt+tab to the browser. If you can, then it's just DDO crashing due to something else.

Don't just watch for the crash once and reply back. Try doing it 10 times and record all the above info every time and post it here.

You are INSANE! My monitor goes into power saver mode ALL THE TIME WHILE USING MY MOUSE! I even have power saver mode/sleep/standby, etc. completely disabled.

Give more details as to exactly what happens and when.

    1) What is your toon doing (standing still ,melee combat, spells, teleporting, zoning)

I can be doing anything from standing still to fighting to moving, it doesn't matter.

    2) What is the temperature of your CPU and GPU? Many programs on the net to find this out

It's not a temp problem; I've researched this thoroughly already. It's a Turbine issue.

    3) Do you have antivirus running when this happens? Try shutting it off

I've already turned all of them off.

    4) Try running in windowed mode to see if there is a popup message that you are missing (alt+enter in game to enter windowed mode)

This happens in full-screen and windowed mode.

    5) Do you switch toons a lot? There is a known bug (memory leak) that swapping toons and entering a new zone will crash the client.

This isn't the issue. I am playing on one toon.

    6) Open a browser before starting DDO. You say the monitor goes into power saver mode but perhaps it's just a black screen. Try to alt+tab to the browser. If you can, then it's just DDO crashing due to something else.

It's not a black screen; there's a buzzing noise and the monitor flashes the message Entering Power Saver Mode. I can do nothing else but reboot the PC.

Don't just watch for the crash once and reply back. Try doing it 10 times and record all the above info every time and post it here.
It's already happened close to 100 times. I'm not going to constantly keep doing cold shut-downs; it's not my computer but an issue with their most recent updates to LOTRO and DDO.

Looks like your system is pulling about 268watts. I've determined this just by taking basic info listed above and plugging it into a psu calc. A quick check shows dell shipping that system with a 300watt psu. Unsure what your bus rail amps are, but that seems dangerously low wattage.

I seriously doubt that I have a "dangerously low wattage" issue since my computer has had ZERO problems EVER except with these 2 games and only in the last few weeks since their updates. All other PC games and online games work PERFECTLY fine!

Wake up call. More than likely it is your PC and your state of denial won't help you at all.

You state you have added nothing, fair enough. But funny thing about adding nothing over time, your machine still degrades just due to being used. Nature of the beast and not your fault.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 and the fact of sound blaster are possible causes beyond PSU.

You may have a connection starting to go flaky. Disconnect your monitor, take out the graphics card (and for that matter, all parts in your PC) and put them back in. Aka re seat everything. And do so 3 times to be safe.

I wouldn't be surprised if your 220 is biting it, however. Those 8800 and 220s I just don't trust due to all the issues nVidia had. Maybe they have fixed it since, but it left a real bad taste.

Remember, different games stress your card/components in DIFFERENT manners. Why? They are different. You could have a part that Turbine games (because they are so similar in their engine) is causing death while other games don't really touch that region so are fine.

I am not in denial; I have tried EVERY solution I could find EVERYWHERE and nothing fixes this. AND there are loads of other people having similar crashing and lag issues and disconnects with the chat server since Turbine's most recent updates. Again, it's not my PC, it's a Turbine issue. It's you who is in denial.

I have not seen this behavior reported elsewhere, where the monitor goes into "power-saving" mode and the system needs to be rebooted. If you mean a hard-reset, that's even more suspicious.

I am typing from an old Dell which DID have a power supply die and was replaced by a Dell supply with a slightly larger amperage output (if I recall, been ages.) In the process I did read several reports of dell power supply problems at one time.

I also have had an older PC where the video card gave up the ghost. In that case the behaviors started changing the color and nature of the screen, but I generally did not run very complex applications with that machineat the time.

Any reasonable first impression from the problem you describe would point first and foremost to either a hardware issue or a software interaction with hardware, so it is reasonable to check for hardware problems and driver problems. Just because you had the issue in LOTTRO and DDO does not rule out hardware problems.

I know that DDO on low graphics DX9 runs fine on my old dell with my old crummy Intel Integrated graphics. If you are invested in blaming a particular piece of software for your issues I fear you will find that after you have left this software you will indeed encounter a similar problem at some point in the future with some other piece of software that chooses to exercise your hardware in a similar way.

The best route to determine what is going on is to characterize in detail what is happening and when. Have you run DXDIAG and rerun all the tests? Have you tried switching out your NVIDIA card for something else just to rule that out? Does your NVIDIA card come with diagnostics? When the monitor goes into "power saver mode", does it do so right away when everything seems to freeze? When you reboot, are you referring to hard reset or soft restart?

no worries... your mobo and chip pulls about 110watts, and your vid card pulls about 60watts. leaves you about 130watts for everything else. thats if your psu was able to put out 300watts, most generic psu put out less then what they are rated at.
I was just offering a place to look since a forced shutdown could very well be from a psu issue.

try removing your video card and running on the onboard video. sure it wont be as good but could help you isolate a few issues.

You asked for help, I gave you detailed information on what to look for and you dismissed my assistance with one sentence.

Good luck on your new game wherever you end up.

I gave you detailed info. on all your BS questions, none of which are the problem as I stated in my responses. There are several sentences, answers to each question. If you would read my reply you would know that. I will stay here but won't play until Turbine fixes their stability issues, most likely due to the most recent game updates and EU server merges.

Wrong. EU server merges was ages ago.

On a constructive note. change your settings so you see the BSOD error message instead of a power down.

As far as DDO goes yes. Lotro started.. last week? two weeks ago?

OP probably won't realize that the servers are completely separate, including physical locations given his steadfast state of denial.

I would ask, what are the results using the 'bare minimum' settings detailed below as a test:

    - Options > Graphics > Graphics Quality "Very Low"
    - Options > Graphics > Graphics Hardware "DirectX 9"
    - Options > Audio > "Mute Game Sounds"
    - Options > Troubleshoot > Engine Speed "Very Low"
(Make the changes, exit the game client and restart it to test playing on those).

This would be a testing measure to determine whether it still happens with the game on the most minimal settings possible, reply with the results when you can.
