    Question Limited Models

Probably been brought up before but consider

    Demons:
    Succubus
    Hezrou
    Marilith
    Jarilith

    Devils:
    Orthon
    Cornugon
    Barbazu (Bearded)
    Pit Fiend
    Bezekira (Hellcat)

Those are the only canonical monsters among the Demons and a the Devils that I know of. The Demons do get Flensers and Reavers (the latter in Fire/Flesh variety) and the Devils have tieflings and Fiendish Trolls/Trogs filling out there ranks. Why aren't there more evil outsiders we know and love? It seems rather limited.

Yet somehow, they're still chaotic evil instead of lawful. DDO is kinda' confused about succubi. My guess is that the devil legions keep them around despite the usual demon/devil rivalry because, hey, wouldn't you?

(Or, more to the point, the devs decided they wanted to make a bunch of devil-related content, but also wanted to use their succubus model, and so they said "screw D&D lore.")

    OKAY looking at it
    http://ddowiki.com/page/Succubus

Yes they are CE, but are Devils 0.o....

    What. *brain breaks*

That doesnt make a lick of sense at all. Albeit, I know 4E made them devils too (a decision I personally didnt like; I'd have rathered they made them NE so they could be on both sides and no one would miss out on the fun).

    It is limited.

With limited time, staff, and resources - it's far easier to reskin an existing model then make, animate, and skin a totally new one.

Yeah, I wish that we had a more diverse lexicon of critters in this game, too... but realistically we can only expect a scant few new models per-year, if that.

Those are actually one of my favorite ones. I think it'd be great to see a new pack in contrast to The Devils of Shavarath featuring Arrow demons, Myrmixicus (people forget they can fly), maybe some HUGE mobs with Goristo or Nalfeshnee, a Sibriex could be an evil mastermind with demon grafted minions and who wouldnt want to see a Balor?

Also in the interest of seeing more Yugoloth favor, perhaps we can see a wider variety of Yugoloths?

I dunno, this argument has been used before, as an excuse for any number of things that are wrong or missing from the game. Have you seen turbine/warner's career page? They're hiring all kinds of ppl, and most likely already have a pretty sizable staff of artists/devs. PLUS, in business, you spend money to make money, so if a 'thing' is required, you buy it/invest in it/outsource it/or otherwise throw $$ at it, knowing that it will make you money in the long run. Saying that this or that feature isn't in the game because Turbine is shorthanded is nonsense.
So i just don't buy the dev-shortage argument at all. It comes down to the choice being made to/not to do/not do whatever it is. Or it's on their roadmap for later, or it's not on their radar at all... I can guarantee you that high level board meetings have little or nothing to do with what the customer wants. It's about how much of what they take in is getting into the shareholders' pockets, and where do they put what's left in order to make that number go up...
New users are daily flocking to the game, despite the fairly dated gfx, or maybe it's BECAUSE of... I mean the minreqs are pretty low, and for an online game that's going to be a good thing. So investing in eye candy is either fairly low on the priority list, or it's intentionally being kept at a minimum for the reasons mentioned above.

I figure that Eberron is not too deep into planar campaigns.
There's really no shortage of demons/devils/yugoloth and archons/eladrin/guardinal/devas.

Its not the number or commonality of outsiders, its the lack of diversity which this thread is concerned about.

If you crack open just about any D&D monster manual, you'll see what I mean here. I think there are close to 150 various devils and demons in version 3.5 (don't quote me on that though, i tend to be off by a bit in my estimates)

ON A SIDE NOTE.... I met a wiz today throwing around Lightning bolts at demons to which I said "But they're immune to electricity" to which he said "Not since update nine", which was a shock to the system.

Is this actually true? I doubt he would be tossing around something that wasnt doing any damage, I couldnt see his numbers though. In PnP demons are immune to electricity and poison. Then again, ina nother thread I read about people using negative energy on CONSTRUCTS which makes no sense at all.

Last SoTG they said WB is popping for more artists/modelers. Probably DDO's most sorely needed dev resource. I want more models & moar monsters!
