It shouldn't take 5 minutes to get buffs on any boat. I still see people taking that long to show up to the quest/raid entrance after they join, though. I can only imagine that they are sword and board fighting the training dummy with their Club of the Silver Flame.
That said, I will grab ship buffs on my own (even for Piker's Fate) just to give me something to do if the group is only half full. My ADHD must be appeased.
Couple of quick questions for clarification -
Are you running the raids at level? If so then grabbing the buffs you need only makes sense. If you are doing twilight forge at level 20 I can see your point.
Who takes 5 min to buff? i use a 30 sec haste pot to take down the dummy if time permits other than that it should take a total of 1 min tops to buff up.
The frustration is when people get every buff on their ship, If Im on my melee I dont bother with the 12 dude or the girl that gives the +1 ench buff.
More frustrating is when people are standing in the sub waiting for the last person to join and then go and buff after it fills that bugs the heck out of me, If my buffs burn down to 30min then so be it, most of the raids dont take that long anyway.
Last comment, If I am the last to fill a raid I will grab the quickest buffs since I am going to the ship anyway to transport me to the raid area most likely. This I agree with but If there are only 5 people in the raid then I buff buff buff.
Suggestion - Perhaps you should put in your LFM that ship buffs are not allowed and then when the person approaches you can inspect them and boot them at that time - this will get you lots of friends.
Enjoy yourself your time on earth is very short.

If you can't wait 30 seconds for somebody to get buffs, I wouldn't want to run anything with you anyways.
No problem. I just won't tell you I'm getting ship buffs.

This thread meets the Khyber meaningless drama ISO standard 5002.
It is approved.
Also if you're going to kick someone from your group at least have the guts to say why.
It's your group, your rules BUT unless you've made the rules known you're just capricious and rude.
- Tell them to come immediately when they join, and/or
- Specify in the LFM you don't want to wait
And no, posting a thread on the forums does not qualfy.
"This game is just too easy!! Wait a minute, I need ship buffs."
Hi, I play Generic Fantasy RPG Online, formerly known as DDO.
I dont tell anyone if Im getting buffs or not. Since the ship is used to go from location to location, they wont notice the extra small amount of time it takes to nail down a few buffs. If the group is waiting or on their way to the raid, I just wont get the whole store. Chances are it takes less time to jump onto the ship, grab say ~4 buffs, then port to the closest location to the raid than it is to run there like we used to pre guildship days.
that is the question ...
But honestly, since the ship buffs were put into the game (and that is a sep. argument all together ...), get rid of the timer on them. Log in - go buff - stay buffed throughout session. Log out. Re-buff when you log in again.
It speeds up quests, provides nice boosts in many areas, and doesn't make waiting for parties to fill more excruciating (which is the major complaint from what I'm reading in various threads).
Why wouldn't you want to wait for my Wizard to melee that training dummy down with my greater potency dagger? You never know when I might need to fall back to some good old hand to hand.
If you let them know up front then they knew what they were getting into (put the conditions in the LFM). If you didn't then your just being silly unless you only allow people who read your threads on the forums to hit your groups (is that in your LFM?).
Shapshap, League of Extraordinary Ham, Sarlona and a bunch of alts that all have names begining with Sha or Sho. Of course Shapshap could be the alt and one of the others the main, it just depends on what day it is.
Is it really all that hard to get your ship buffs, pots, scrolls, gear from the bank, spells changed out and THEN click the LFM? What's wrong with being prepared for the raid/quest specified when you join the group?
Rather than joining unprepared and making everyone stand around while you do all the above, plus get a drink, use the can, feed the cat, and whatever else you forgot to do.
I'm a big fan of being prepared and ready when you join the LFM. Especially if you are taking one of the last 3 or fewer spots. It's gonna be time to roll.
Not that kicking someone from the party is really all that necessary if they are not 100% prepared. But it is kinda annoying.
I think it is DEFINITELY warranted, though, if you were one of the first 6 joiners, the group took longer than 3 minutes to fill and, after filling, you THEN announce you are going for ship buffs. That's just rude.

The way I see it is nowadays there are so many overgeared/undertalented noobers running around that you might as well give them 2+ minutes to ship buff (preferably on my ship which I know has +2 Stats, AC/Saves, etc...) I mean thats 20 extra hit points, some extra DPS, some better saves (too bad we dont have a Heavy Fort shrine....THAT would guarantee nooberness control)
I don´t want to lose 10% XP everytime a PUG dies in my party - or even worse a potential wipe and waste of time, Sure I solo and duo with Guildies a lot but when you Hunger for XP´s.... you have to concede a few preferences.
NOTE: I prefer booting people who ask for "Share" (Specially when quest giver is obstructing the entrance!) or "Which House" . It´s statistically more efficient to boot these noobers than the ones that want to buff.

Congrats, because you can't wait 2 minutes for people to grab ship buffs, you've effectively cut the amount of people you can run with into a tenth.
But I've done the same thing, but that was just Reavers. Seriously, who the hell needs ship buffs for reavers.
Assuming the person isn't spending an excessive period of time getting ship buffs (5 min tops).......
Unless you mention it in the LFM details of your PUG, you can wait for someone to get shipbuffs. Your time isn't that valuable.
Anything else is dooooshbaggery.
