Default Can we get an incoming mike volume slider

It's probably my sound card but most peoples voice chat is to low to hear. I can hear random farts from the kobold down the road on it but when someone speaks, even with all other volume sliders off, I can't hear them.

I've tried increasing the volume out of game with no luck.

I know in vent there are things I can play with to increase the level of incoming volume but not in ddo chat. Would help as so many insist on giving instructions through talking even when I say I can't hear you.

It's not your sound card and I agree with you - we need this.
This is one of the most requested UI features on the forums, but apparently, we can't have it.
From what I've gathered (all second hand or perhaps even third hand information), the problem is that the voice chat code is not Turbine's. This, to me, is as lousy excuse, as they get.

Currently the voice chat can be normalized manually, if you slide all the volume sliders towards the minimum, but leave the main volume slider at the maximum. Therefore, the relative volume increase of the voice chat can be done from the other end.
If you want something to be long 100 units but can't stretch it, measure it in smaller units.

I have master volume at 1.00. I have most other things down around 0.03 to 0.06. I have voice chat at 1.00. I have music turned off (0.00). I usually have no problem hearing people, and in fact they are sometimes far too loud.

I have my sound set up similarly.

The problem is that different players have different mics and they all have different sound set-ups. There's no balance.
One guy may sound too loud compared to the game sounds, but the guy right next to him is barely audible compared to the game sounds.

We need individual sliders for each party member, so we can have some semblance of balance on the incoming sound.

Yep, Everyone I know has requested this. The main reason is as Calebro sais diferant players come in at diferant levels. I have even noticed being in groups where I am told my mike is too loud. I then procede by making no adjustments just to get told in a later group in the same gaming sesion and login and get told my mike is too soft. There are way too many variables to effect this to just try to adjust from one set of volume controls as there are I am sure a hundred or more diferant sound cards being used as well as probably twice that many differant mikes being used. Plus a persons master volume and mike controls on their PC interacting with the DDO sound settings. Best salution Find another vendor to provide your voice code that allows individual sliders or write your own. PLEASE!!

I would love both this and the ability to reach through the computer and change someone else's voice setting to push-to-talk rather than always on...I get that you are having sinus problems or a cold, I really don't want to listen to you hacking all through that painful 69 minute (normal) shroud.

This is a cut and paste from what I posted in another thread about this same subject:

Well, being that the code for VC comes from Gamespy, Turbine needs to scrap it and get with Ventrilo and implement their software for VC. Ventrilo has an autolevelling feature that works. It boosts low voices to a set threshold and lowers loud voices to that same threshold.

This has been suggested over and over again yet Turbine only gives the excuse that it's not their software. If Turbine is PAYING Gamespy for the VC software code then perhaps they need to stop payment until Gamespy can fix this. Either that or rip the code out, put in Ventrilo code, test it, and then when it's working, shoot Gamespy (I hate those people anyway).

    What he said!

My guild uses Ventrillo for our guild runs, or to have voice chat with each other while soloing/pugging. Not only can you adjust volume, you can have it read to you what someone is typing (sounds kinda like Stephen Hawking).

    UDR Loot Rules:
    1) No griefing people for pulling loot that dropped in their name
    2) When rolling, classes for which the item is "useful" get +10 to the roll
example: Wiz and Barb both roll on a Torc, the barb saying "I'm TRing into an arcane next week"
Wiz gets +10 on his roll

It's always a shame when the hammer of poor design choices smashes the fun of player tactical adaptation.
