    Default Spell Pen, Smell Pen

as a sorcerer, i gotta ask, why take spell pen enhancements now that cooldowns are so much longer for finger of death and phantasmal killer? just wondering how many people out there think its still worth taking? let's see right now i carry the following spells affected by spell pen

    hypnotism
    suggestion
    finger of death
    otto's irresistable dance
    hold monster, mass
    wail of the banshee

so i have 2 feats and 12 enhancement points dedicated for spells while interesting generally i can use other things if they are not effective.

further i carry prismatic spray that doesn't care about spell resistance or deathblock for that matter. and i have a greater spell penetration VIII item. just wondering how many other sorcs out there might feel some of those enhacement points and feats might be well spent elsewhere?

not sure. for now i think i'm dropping the final 6 enhancements points for spell penetration III enhancement for starter and see if i miss it. my toon is drow so i get a bonus from charisma anyway so i doubt i will miss it. any thoughts?

I never worried much about spell pen on my sorc. However, after U9, I noticed I had quite a bit of trouble with mass hold monster in some epics. Luckily, mass hold is no longer the only spell used in epics (outside buffs).

If you're a savant, spell pen isn't terribly important a lot of the time. Especially if you're focusing on DPS and/or buffs. Just be able to self heal, mitigate damage and conserve SP enough tog et the job done and kill everything you need to kill. It's not that hard, really.

Even so, if you want to be a catch-all sorc and have the ability to land instakills and mass holds and symbols of death and still DPS everything, then you might want to worry about it a bit more. A few past lives, some feats/enhancements aren't uncalled for. But the new paradigm seems to be "specialize or die" for most casters. So you're going to end up weakening some things to be better at others. Just the way it works.

Personally, I love water savant for 99% of the game content. DPS all the way.

Spell Penetration also affects Waves of Fatigue and Hold Monster, which most of use use a lot. Almost any debuff is affected.
I just dont bother with more than two enhancements.
