Another question, for those who are doing this.
Are you generally killing the Shadowfiends? Can you do enough damage to kill them off before too many of them respawn? I suppose in the end, the dps should the Shadowlord anyway, but I was wondering if I should try to pump out enough dps to actually kill the fiends, or just focus on self-healing and holding the aggro....

I've only been in ToD as DPS and never arcane.
Do the Shadowfiends respawn or can they all be eliminated by tanking them?
do they do physical damage or just cold? as someone above, only been to tod as melee and i rolled PM recently.

I always tank them.
drow pm 432hp (ya i know missing shroud hp item atm)
3x cold absorb stick, fire sheild and icy potion of frostbite = ZzzzzzzzZzzzzzz
I lay down a cloud at both sides of the stairs and a fw on me at bottom of stairs. Toss a protection from cold on mahself when needed. quicken is needed to avoid interupts.
mmmmmm how do you get 597HP on a drow pm? double madstones doesnt count
so the main reason for tanking instead of kiting seems to be the lag.
but if shadows rubberbanding cause you to die whilst kiting, wouldn't the same lag effect your self healing if your tanking? or am i missing something...

Where is the b est place to stand when tanking? Right at the bottom of the stairs or just off to the side with your back to a wall?
...
Tanking has two main advantages. One, it's idiot proof, whereas there's a learning curve with kiting. Two, the bulk of the damage occurs when moving in and out of the shadow's aura, which doesn't happen when you're stationary. You take a burst of damage when they initially move in, but relatively little once you're within their aura.
After seeing ayspam do it on his sorc, tanked them yesterday on my PM, 527 hp raged in form (elf ). Triple cold absorb stick, fireshield and refreshing protection from elements every few seconds, I barely needed any healing outside of negative aura ticks. Used cloudkill and ice storm, got aggro fine, also for some reason a coupla shadows died, no idea if they die when Nythirios' health gets to a certain percentage or if they just have super-crappy HP (never had time to notice before hehe).

One big msiconception dont move.
1. buffs cold, fire shield, prot elements.
2. go to right before steps cast firewall.
3. Stand there and repair or heal through initial cold damage upon first set of fiends arrival. cast a fire wall and acid rain if you like. DOT boss if you got a bick stick and think your Bad A$$
4. the initial damage is all you will recieve until the next group gets there.
5. if you move around or get out of there aura you will be hit with that 150 point damage again. Stand still
6. They will die!!!
NO GEAR NEADED AND I WOULD SUGGEST YOU HAVE ABOUT 400 HP AT MINIMUM. THE MORE THE BETTER. I TRULY HAD DOUBTS THE FIRST TIME I DID IT BUT AFTER THAT TIME I WOULD NOT DO IT ANY OTHER WAY. YOU COULD PROBABLY DO ON A DEDICATED HEALER BASIS.
