Default Stuck at Getting data centers

As detailed here: http://forums.ddo.com/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=22 I have been trying to connect since yesterday without success. Some info:

    • I cannot load turbine.com in a browser or get past Getting data centers on the initial splash screen
    • I show a jump in hop times on a tracert to turbine.com or gls.ddo.com at about the 7th step, to 100ms or more, whereas before then it is all 20ms or less
    • My ISP tested from their end and could successfully load turbine.com, I cannot
    • A mate who plays and lives in the same town, different ISP, can connect
    • I can connect to the site (and so presumably the game) via my mobile's web connection
    • Lamannia works
    • I have tried all the usual things and those described in the FAQ, like removing and re-adding to firewall exceptions, that kind of thing.

Any ideas? Any further info needed? Anyone had similar problems in the past and solved it?

Don't want another night I can't get on, I've got casters to get back on ADQ timers

Oh glad it's not just me (but sorry to hear you are deprived of DDO too). I also tried disabling firewall entirely as one of the checking steps I took.

You're not by any chance with Virgin Media in South East UK are you? I have a suspicion some routing after it leaves their network is at fault. The guy their end said there was nothing they could do though, and that after 24 hours the server at fault would be identified as wonky by whoever owned and the pathing issue would be sorted by the self-regulating nature of the 'net but no luck so far if that is the case. :/

Ah ok, starting to make sense then. My friend who lives in same town and can connect is not with Virgin.

I'll give them another call tonight and see if this info and the continued inability to connect might encourage them to look a bit harder at the problem.

    Edit: Thanks!

Not sure if its something I did or not but managed to get it working again. I normally connect via a router (its a wireless for connection by my laptop but the desktop has an ethernet connection to the router). I removed the connection to the router and connected directly to the cable modem and tried DDO again - now seems to work okay. Which implies theres a problem with the router or its settings and as I havent altered the settings not sure how this could be - although its possible an automatic update of some kind has altered something on the router or my system that prevents it from working properly.

    Hope this helps.

Unfortunately as I upgraded to the 50mb connection a few months ago, they replaced the modem with a combined router/modem combo called Superhub, so I couldn't skip the router if I wanted to.

Not that it should make any difference; I haven't changed any settings on mine either, and it's worked fine for months. Lamannia still works fine too, so... I'm stumped. Thanks for the info though. I wonder if it's just coincidence and your area has been resolved at the same time you did that. They have an automated message on the CS line about investigating & fixing known issues with internet banking due to problems with websites requiring secure connections. So now I'm wondering if it's a similar issue and DDO connects over SSL or something.

Not having much luck talking to them tonight unfortunately; 20 mins and counting with automated menus, queues and misdirection to incorrect departments.

Just remembered to come back and get some thread closure for any who find this later. I hate it when these get left "unfinished".

In my case, it was an ISP problem, which they acknowledged after a day or two and took around 3 days to resolve. The reason Lamannia worked and live did not was that the issue related to anything using an SSL connection (so online banking also didn't work, for example).

An odd one indeed, and not likely to help anyone in future but I wanted to put the resolution here so others who came later didn't think there was some magic fix I wasn't sharing!
