are you talking about something different from clicking Ctrl and right clicking on the mouse to enter your own desired purchase amount? (I think that's the right button) - I think they already have said mechanism in place. It was very annoying until someone told me that as well.

Yep - been playing for nearly 2 years and only found out about Ctrl-clicking last week. The UI is not at all intuitive, and there either needs to be a loading screen hint with it, or something in the UI to tell people that you can Ctrl-click.

I wouldn't say 'quite well'... max stacks of 100 get to be annoying, especially since you can't put another stack into your cart until you do something with the 1st...
