to being doing Taming the Flames on Elite with a lv 8-10 group, and allow a foolish and desperate lv 6 monk in just to watch him die 7 times?

No. It is worse to let a level 11 in and watch HIM die 7 or more times.
... a soldier,
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation,
Even in the dragon's mouth.
We nicknamed him Burnt Toast and every time he died we said another piece of toast got burnt.
If you
1) Told him he'll get 50% panelty due to lvl 10 in quest
2) Asked him not the zerg alone a content he cant handle himself
3) Gave the minimum buffs/heals, unless you told him to byoh/resists
Then no
But if you
1) Told him: Dont worry, you'll be fine - while loling inside
2) Asked him to solo a side while knowing he'll die
3) Greasing him to the lava
Then yes - but still, its funny

Reminds of a Tears run on elite last weekend. I joined up because it was past midnight and I was feeling like goofing around. The party was a 5th lvl wizard, 6th rogue, 6 barb, two sorcs 7-8 lvl and me on my 8th cleric alt.
First lightning trap 20 seconds in the 5th lvl wiz bites it. Just walks in, even after I tell the party to stop and wait for the rogue to deal with it. Then the rogue steps into it. Together they die 13 times before we get to the end.
It was not fun. Why don't they listen? I would have recalled and dropped them, but I have a stupid policy against ragequitting. May have to re-evaluate.
I haven't read the OP or any of the responses.
I just read the title "Is it mean" and saw it was in the Khyber section.
Answer: Of course not.
(I kid Khyber. I kid)
BONGO FURY - Ghallanda - Thingfish - Wizard, Diuni - Ninja, Gheale - Angel, Dullknife - Tank, Noodlefish - Gimp, Jaquaby - Treacherous and other gimps.
It would be mean (to you and the others in your party) NOT to let him in. You have taught the monk a valuable lesson and got a good laugh out of it.

Beware My Gifts!!!
God, it sounds like my Lordsmarch runs last night with guildies. Our mid-level cleric thinks because my high level cleric leads the way in those instances (he does because of my ability to remember the quests, not because I want to in any way, shape or form), she gets to do the same thing. So every fight, initial aggro is drawn to our primary healer. Fun in Undermine when it was literally "run her back to the rest shrine, she done got blown up."
