    Default 12Fighter/6Ranger/2Rogue

Hi all. I feel like I should say this is the only melee type character that I've actually put any thought into. My other characters have pretty much built themselves...

I wanted to make a character that has Rogue skills that isn't as squishy as the typical (from my experience) halfling Rogue. What I was thinking was a Pick Kensai Temest that has full Rogue skills as well as some Tactics fun. I am facing two problems with the idea however, those being:

1.) What race do you think would be best? I think Human would be good for the extra feat, but I feel like Dwarf or Warforged would be better due to the tactics enhancements they can take... and

2.) I have no idea what the skill points should be per level. I was planning to make the character with 14 int (obviously... I need it for Tempest 1 prereqs) so I can get Combat Expertise and Improved Trip, so with 14 int I will have plenty of skill points in the Rogue levels and Ranger levels, but what will I do with the Fighter levels?

Also, what do you all think my stats should be? I have access to 32 point builds, and any race if you think another would be better for what I want to do.
Another also, I know picks aren't the best weapon anymore since there is no auto crit, but I still think it would be some pretty mean DPS. If there is something that I cannot crit, such as undead, I will be switching to something more fitting.

I'd go with human, you will probably need the extra skill points if you going to max out your rogue skills, and the healing amp doesn't hurt either.

Here's a 28 build I just started that goes for a rogue skill set on a kensai, maybe it will give you some ideas.

I did the same just WF for extra HP and tactics enhancements:

    http://my.ddo.com/character/ghallanda/khimord/

I went for 14 INT to get the search and DD up even on fighter levels. I found that you do not need full ranks in search to get most traps (except special elite ones, or epic ones) and it has served me well throughout leveling. The extra sneak attack damage is also nice, but you will loose out on feats a little.

I went the stunning blow route, but currently - after the stunning blow nerf - I am thinking of going the HP/Tank route through hate tanking.

I think if I'm going to get Combat Expertise, I might as well make room for improved trip. Do you have a link to a character builder for Khimord?

I have a build similar to this on sarlona, I went 12fighter/6ranger/2rogue elf with scimitars. Use the event and lit II schimis. About 550 hp and the elven dmark invis and displacement are pretty sweet to. Was a bit of a flavor build but now that I have good gear on her, she is fun to play. You can myddo Sohni on sarlona.

    STR: 16 +5 Bumps +2 Tome +3 Fighter +6 Item = 32
    DEX: 15 +1 Rogue +2 Tome +6 Item = 24
    CON: 16 +2 Tome +2 WF +6 Item = 26
    INT: 14 +2 Tome = 16
    WIS: 8 +2 Tome +6 Item = 16
    CHA: 6

    1 Rogue, 6 Ranger, 1 Fighter, 1 Rogue, 11 Fighter

I took the second rogue level a bit later so I could max some skills. You should really try to get a hand on +2 Tomes early, especially INT for an extra skill point.

OL is not an issue now, so I'd stop putting points into it when you get to fighter levels. I have 8 ranks in it and with dex and a +15 item I get most locked chests/doors just fine.

On fighter levels it was more a priority to me to get UMD & Intimidate up, but in hindsight, especially with the intimidate nerf I wouldn't do any points in intimidate any more. Search/DD where secondary on mine but I managed to get a higher search base (20) and with gear I can find most traps just fine.

Feats (in no particiular order): Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Khopesh, G2WF, WF: Slash, Quick Draw, WS: Slash, GWS: Slash, IC: Slash, O2WF, PA, Toughness, Stunning Blow

I chose O2WF over GWF: Slash for it's more to-hit, and GWF: Slash is not required for anything else (like Kensai II).

+2 tomes can be done. I'm willing to drop some dough and buy a supreme tome from the DDO store. Looks like it should work out pretty well. I'll probably roll it up after work and see how it plays.

    Thanks guys.

You do not need INT 14 for Tempest pre-reqs (Dodge / Mobility / SA); you only need DEX 13+. That said, for what you want, starting INT 14 makes most sense so you have enough skill pts. I also recommend human for the extra feat & skill pts.

I'm working on a very similar build, but with a few differences. Same level spread, but, I decided to take a different tactic. Picked elf for the simple reason of having that option to use for AA, then combining that with Kensai 2. Now I'm a bit uncertain as to whether or not I should pick bow as my signature or the twin scimitars. Given the fact I'm working to get AA, I'm thinking bow would be a much more logical choice. Thinking with the kensai power surge, bow strength, kensai bonuses, weapon spec bonuses, that getting hit by one of her arrows will be like getting hit by a truck.

Choose the weapons you use the most to be your Kensai specialization. The conventional wisdom says you use longbows for 20 secs. w/Manyshot and melee for the 100 secs. MS is on cooldown; ergo, you should go melee Kensai. But you can defy conventional wisdom if you like; and in this case it saves you a feat, since you have to take WF Ranged for AA, so it's only 2 more feats for longbow Kensai vs 3 for scimitar (4 if khopesh).

The real problem is feats & APs both wind up pretty tight on this build; in particular squeezing in the elf racial enhs to scimitars on top of everything else may be challenging. So you might be better off going with khopeshes late in the game just because of the AP shortage.

Here's an elf rogue 2 / rgr 6 / ftr 12 AA khopesh Kensai build I did a while back for someone who also wanted decent trap skills. She starts out using 2H weapons, then switches to scimitars after lvl 7 (ITWF + Ram's Might) taking the elven racial enhs as she goes, then switches to khopeshes by endgame (`roundabout the time she crafts GS weapons, I'd say). Main thing I don't like is some of the feats are more backloaded than I would like; but only way around that is to either backload other feats instead or go for monk 2 splash rather than rogue (extra feats sooner but costs UMD & trap skills).

yeah, I know AP's will be tight, 2 levels just for each prestige, not taking into consideration the prereq's, which, fortunately, aren't that bad, kensai doesn't have many requirements. I probably will switch to khopesh later on, saving my free feat exchange for that time. Will probably pick up weapon spec for slashing also, don't see any reason not to do so. My stats look a bit different, Con is lower, but put more into Wis/Int, but mostly I cranked up Dex, level 4 and already sitting on a 27, with only a +1 stat item, not too shabby.

I have one. I personally dumped int and ran with a higher wisdom for the monk dile. I am also a 3rd life character. 4 points in open locks and I am generally fine for what I need, non epic traps just don't matter with a good reflex save, timing and evasion.

It's been done, called The Monster.

The only difference is 2 monk instead of 2 rogue, that and he chose warforged.

I dislike warforged, so I also made my own version:
