Default Launcher error: dndlauncher.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close

So I've been playing for a year on two different servers without problems. Suddenly the launcher won't work. It wont even load the login screen for the game. It simply gives the error "dndlauncher.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."

    Some notes:

    I'm using Windows XP.

I've renistalled the game. Same problem.

I've submitted a ticket but I wanted to see what the forums said while I waited for a response.

There was an error when I rebooted that said my datasafe has encountered a problem. Same message more or less so Im wondering if its connected.

I've run two separate virus scans using Avast and Clamwin. No viruses or malware.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    What do I do?

Usually though not always an error in turbinelauncher like this is something preventing its functioning.

What I would recommend is trying the steps here to make a new Windows user account setup as a "Computer Administrator" when you get to the stage in those steps asking to select the account "type".

Basically, create the new admin account, log off your current (best to just "reboot") and after restarting choose the new account and try launching DDO there, just to see if the same issue occurs or not.

After that make sure you follow up with your support ticket (link to submit one here just in case you need it).

EDIT: Just realized you indicated dndlauncher, that's an older file left in for cross compatibility for older installs, DDO should be launched on XP via Turbinelauncher.exe instead. If you get a similar affect using that file though definitely try the new account steps.

NOTE: The Customer Support forums are best for Player-to-Player help, for more direct and official support, please submit a ticket to the appropriate team via the form here.

After contacting support, log into your email webpage to add noreply@turbine.com and accountsupport@turbine.com to their "safe senders" list and your contacts list/address book. Be sure to check Spam/Junk Mail folders as well since most email providers do not let external email programs or cell phones download mail flagged this way.

    Thanks.

A friend fixed it for me. He almost missed it though. After using a total of 6 different antivirus and spyware scanners, 2 system restores, and checking temp folders he had an afterthought and decided to check the IE add-ons.

There was one suspicious one: kmsvc32.dll

We searched for it, found it in the system32 folder and removed it.

Everything works perfectly now with the bonus that this machine is as clean as it's ever been without having to reinstall the OS

So if anyone has this problem check your IE add-ons for anything suspicious.

Oh the actual add-on name is 44daa32c. You get to add-on manager through your IE properties under the program tab. Hope this helps out others.
