    Default Ship buff improvement

Why do ship buffs expire? Why do you not just log in, buff, and you're good?

One of the more annoying things about running groups is that everybody feels like they have to buff then run directly to the quest, holding up everyone involved.

At a minimum, ship buffs should get the same treatment hirelings did. No countdown when in a public area.

Since I don't perceive an issue with just making them persistent, at least until death, I don't see why you should have to repeatedly rebuff.

I understand the "Easy Button" folks. I regularly get irked about ship buffs and run quests without them. I don't like when I have to wait for some guy to rebuff in the middle of a chain.

The point is, the easy button is already there. Why make everybody else wait while it gets pressed?

I am also sick of running around to the collectors. I want them to come to me to pick my prayer beds, funerary tokens and so on.
That **** insolent kobold, sitting lazy in the market place, waiting for me to bring him the collectables.
Hey, is not an easy button, is just taking away the stupid burocracy of running around. Also there should be teleporters, so that we dont need to run more than 10 seconds.

One thing they could consider would be to make the P2P ships count as permanent buffs until death (persist through log out up until about 15 mins or so to allow for DCs). That is, the ones you spend Astral Diamonds on, any ammenity you place on it gets this property. Also, any gold seal ammenity gains it, regardless of the type of ship.

Everyone gets the same benefit as is currently implemented. Those who spend real $$ (or farm ALOT of favor for TP) get an additional benefit. This would increase the usefulness and likely encourage people to spend a little scratch in the store while NOT reducing the value of those who go the F2P route. Meanwhile, we have the option to get and use the very benefit many players would like to have. And those who have already spent money on these things wake up the next day with a nice new benefit for it

Now that new buffs show up on the RIGHT side of the buff bar, it wont even significantly impact the visual cue problem. Of course, I would also like to be able to click OFF buffs (right click, dispel) if this were implemented.

Not even close to the same thing. Ridiculous counter arguments that dont actually relate, in order to make a point = fail.

    Oh so /signed!!

Personally, I don't know about you but I absolutely hate useless time sinks. I think after we get to know all the collectors we could just have it auto-done. I'm here to play. I've already explored, it doesn't do anything for me to keep running all over the place.

The problem is not the timer on the buffs.

The problem is some people's overwhelming OCD, which has led them to believe that airship buffs are a MUST-HAVE requirement in order to acheive success, and that they must have all of them which are available.

Also, try running the party a bit differently.

Assemble on the airship, instead of at the dungeon door, once everyone's there, everyone gets buffed, then disembarks and heads to the dungeon together. Then nobody's buff timers are burning because they're waiting for recent additions to the party to get buffs.

That having been said, you DO have a point, considering how pervasive airship buffs have become.

Everyone wants them, everyone wants to get as many of them as they can, and everyone wants to refresh them as soon as possible after they expire.

buff stacking equality is more concerning than duration when it comes to ship buffs.

I would actually like to see the XP buff as a guild only perma buff that nevet goes away I really dont care about the rest.

Start without them and them compliment them on how those buffs really helped them run through already cleared corridors.

When they see the first chest open in party chat, ships buffs don't seem as important.

    Agree...sorta.

Reduce the strength of some of the buffs(resists really are the ones I'm thinking here) and then make them stack.(Like 3/6/9 stacking resist or whatever) and ya, make them a guild only buff that u 'get' when u 'shrine' etc

Make them less of a crutch and more a 'always on' thing and I'll quit /kicking people who run off for them after joining my groups.

Such powerfull buffs that are also easily acquired need a downside. The downside is the short time it takes to refresh them. If you don't like waiting for people to get them then don't wait. If they miss out on enough optional exp or chests they may figure out that ship buffs are almost always a waste of time.

Just be happy they last an hour instead of 30mins like the house p buffs which take longer to acquire than clicking yes to a guild invite, take longer to get thanks to the dialogue, and even have a plat cost.

No, the downside is the time and effort it takes to earn them (and maintain them) for the entire guild. Once the guild has earned them, they have already paid the 'price' on them. And they continue to pay it every day they keep their guild level high enough to do so. Not to mention the ones who actually BUY them. And if they chose to allow others to benefit from their efforts, thats just fine. Really not much different than handing out buffs in a quest; you earned the lvl and can now do whatever you please with your SP.

Getting perma-buffed (or at least extending them to 3/6 hours like XP pots etc) would be just fine.

Ok so let's assume you've been playing for a week. All that running around feels fresh and new and it's kind of exciting to explore and see what lies ahead.

Fast forward 1 year later and you've now run through the marketplace thousands of times to get somewhere. It's not fresh, it's not new, there's no challenge, there aren't monsters to fight, it's just another 30-60 seconds of your gametime wasted running through the market. It adds literally nothing to the game for the vast majority of layers. I'm sorry but immersion is out the window once you've run through the same content a bunch of times on a bunch of different toons and TR's. At that point people just want to get to the gameplay and the quests to start fighting and I can understand that. SO yeah, there should be teleporters and there are, they are just inconveniently located a long run away in each town rendering them worthless.

There should be a 200-250pt Phiarlan Favor reward that enables teleporting from/to any public area that is not usable in quest. Similar to the pendant. That way you get your cake and you get to eat it too. New players get to experience it and vets get their easy button.

If you like sitting around writing your name on the blackboard 10000 times after school each day then by all means write-away. I for one would rather get out to the field after school and get the ball-game going.

    As for buffs?

/signed - persistent until death is the way to go. No reason to make everyone run to the ship more often except that maybe it sells more bracelets of friends or teleport rods.

I make a point, you only dont understand it.

There is an interest in games to put some time consuming parts.
If DDO would be absolut straight line, you would end all quests in 40 hours.
So, it is all a system to get some balance. Is maybe not perfect, but it is how they wanted to have it.
Having the buffs run in public is consistent with the world conception. You get also buffs for haggle, that are just used in public instances only.
They put the buffs to run in one hour for some reason, I dont think the devs and the game engineers are stupid.
So, there is the challenge: have a good guild, speak, organize, so you dont have to wait for PUGs.
But no, my god, you want to put a LFM, that takes 45 minutes to fill, and then you are annoyed that you have to wait 5 minutes more. I do not PUG, and if I would PUG*, that would mean that I have time to play relaxed, so I wait the 5 or the 10 minutes, no problem.

    * I do not PUG because when I play I usually have 90 min or 120 min. playtime x2 a Week. So I connect with my static group (not easy) or I play solo. THAT is sad, not waiting 10 min. for rebuffing.

Having actually worked on games myself, I am well aware of the necessity for time-sinks in them to extend the life of the game. I am also well aware that too many time sinks just for the sake of being a time sink, with no entertainment value whatsoever, make players mad, and effectively REDUCE the life of a game. There is a fine balance to it.

Running around from collector to collector is boring, but its something you can do on your OWN time on the way from one spot to another. Going for ship buffs cuts in to OTHER players' times as well, because they have to wait on you (or start without you). You shouldnt be running to collectors when a group is waiting on you to start a quest, so its not even applicable to this. Collectors are a 'downtime' activity. Buffs are not. My original response to your <cough> 'suggestion' still stands.

Expiring ship buffs serve 2 purposes: (1) A (bad) time sink and (2) It requires players to visit their ships more often, which gives them the ILLUSION of the ship being more useful, and keeps the ship in their minds.

The suggestion I offered not only retains some of the time sink, but offers players a method of getting around that sink while generating additional revenue for turbine AND giving us the ability to acquire a better buffing proces at the same time. Removing tedious and unnecessary time sinks = happy players.

    Wow!

Two times neg. rep. for being sick of seeing this post every week and responding in a metaphoric manner.
Well, it is told when you say the truth, it generates some "tomato throwing". If the tomato doesnt hit you, you didnt say the truth loud enough.

People opening this thread think that the game engineers are just simple minded guys that say "hey, lets put an hour for the ship buffs" "But why an hour?" "Oh, I dont know, just so, it sounds good".

If they put an hour to the ship buffs and it beginns running out inmediatly, it is because the game engineers wanted it so. They want you to rebuff, they want you to run around, they want you to spend your time. It is a balance act, as said by varusso.
The problem is, you have difficulties to make decent PUGs in decent time. There is no problem with the ship buffs, I dont see why a dev should waste his/her time in doing buffs as good as permanent.

Pausing the buffs in public would probably be the best way to solve this.

That takes even longer. Wait on a ship (which ship?) until a full party and then head out? No, that just makes it worse.
