    Default Daggerdale Reviews are in!

... and they're really not good.

Gamespy: 1.5 stars (out of 5)
Joystiq: 1.5 stars (out of 5) - calling the game a "critical miss"

And then there is Gametrailer's Video Review, which is really unflattering - and watching it illustrates why they gave it a very bad score. They sum up the change to 4e rules by saying it makes the game a "bridled affair that leads the franchise down a strict and simple path." They gave it a 4.5 out of 10.

And you can only level up to 10.

Yeah - giving this one a wide, wide berth.

One has to imagine how big the grin is on Turbine's face watching this game, put out by Atari, flop.

Sad thing is I always felt the 4E ruleset loaned itself greatly to MMOs/Video games. How do you mess THAT up?

I'll do the trial and see how it goes - critics and I don't have the best track record of seeing eye to eye on a lot of things. Some critics praised The Witcher, I couldn't play it past the first major act (after you kill the Hellhound boss or w/e). I've also loved movies/games that have been panned.

I've heard Diablo III was severely Wowified, but haven't done any fact checking on that. Anybody know if there's truth to that?

tbh, I won't listen to it until I see it first hand.

I've been waiting a long time, I seriously hope it remains tough and fun and diablo II-esque.

The animations do look kind of cartoonish. The game appears to have lost a lot of it's original grit.

However, those are just the initial trailers. There's still time for changes.

Regardless, I'm still looking forward to it.

I'm kind of hoping for the opposite, really. Diablo II was pretty good, but once I beat it the first time I didn't much care to play it again (and that's with the expansion).

It was ironic that I wound up not liking it more because I pre-ordered it and waited for it to come out for years, only to have an issue with it running on my PC. I met the specs, it installed fine but when I'd launch the game and click play at the start up screen, nothing would happen. I didn't finally play it until many, many years later.

It felt too repetitive and "cheap" difficulty wise, more like a slog than an adventure. May have been because by the time I could play it all the way through, it was already somewhat dated in gameplay and mechanics. I've fond memories of D1, but man I can't go back and play that game anymore...it's painful!

I'm hoping D3 is different, but we'll see.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I did like the gritty, severe texture and feel to D2. I doubt the game's animations will change before launch...we'll see.

I also LOL'd at the dual-wielding CROSSBOW Demon Hunter. Cool in concept but it just seems a little over the top.

    Fav part of that review;

'You will need the cast-iron stomach of a Dwarf to swallow this swill'.

Yea, big fat PASS on that one. Rather play Temple of Elemental Evil again....

I'd rather take rusted nails and ram them into my eyes before I'd play ToEE again. I borrowed that from my friend, played about an hour and uninstalled. The radial menu was painful!

Here's to hoping the Atari goes outta business.

Hoping for a BGIII someday. And not Dragon Age for all it's success.

I lost so many hours of my life in the early 2000's to Diablo 2 it's not even funny. I friggin LOVED that game. Talk about a grind!

I can't wait for Diablo 3. It's probably the only game that could actually pull me away from DDO at this point.

    Thanks Memnir,

Not that I had high hopes for this, as the name (daggerdale), producer (atari), and ruleset (4E) were all stacked against it, but after watching that video clip, it didn't even look like it lived up to my very low expectations. Now I can save myself the trouble of downloading it.

Actually real life has pulled me out of DDO since March. I play every once in a while but nowhere near as much as when I was single

Guess I'll have to hold out for Dungeon Siege 3 to get my coop hack and slash on.

This doesn't bode well for the Neverwinter game since it's also in 4E rules

It looks like that from the intro videos and pictures, I hope it's not though... I think I will try it in any case...
