I'm not sure what you are showing.

Both icons are there, sure. But that doesn't mean they effects are stacking.

Or am I missing something?

The dmg modifier changed. See for yourself. +57 to +59

edit : btw the ring i swapped to also has +1 & +2 exc str since you can see the to-hit modifier is the same.

Tried this last night, as I have both sets ... didn't see any change in the inventory panels or under item inspection.

Did you see a difference when you equipped/unequipped your shintao, or does that panel basically not pay attention to the exceptional damage bonuses?
