    Default Half-Orc Paladin TR

i bought the half-orc a couple of months ago so i wanted to use that. i also want to use the paladin past life in a future build...and i also realized that i don't have enough good "stuff" from my barbarian life to equip a fighter or TWF khopesh rogue/ranger...this is my plan for a half-orc Knight of the Chalice. i know that the Half-Orc is a poor choice for a paladin, but i would like to try it...thoughts?

Using Half-Orc to create a Paladin isn't a bad idea, but if you're going to do it, I would suggest taking advantage of Half-Orc abilities.

a.) Half-Orcs get extra damage when using Two Handed Weapons, I'm not completely sure why you are going with Khopesh, but going with a Two Handed Weapon would free up a feat, and would allow you to take the Half-Orc THF enhancements. I would also consider taking Half-Orc Power Attack if you decided to go with THF.

b.) Instead of Paladin Charisma enhancements, I would suggest going with Half-Orc Strength enhancements.

c.) If you are in need of enhancements, you can drop your Exalted Smite down to III because the extra +1 to your range isn't a HUGE boost, especially not for 4 action points.

***Disclaimer*** As always with my posts, I am not implying that you NEED to do these things, simply making suggestions on things for you to think about. Feel free to ask me additional questions, or completely ignore my suggestions!

TWF HO paladin is tricky to pull off, given the DEX pre-req and -2 CHA, even on HO TR. Still, it's certainly not impossible, if slightly suboptimal - maybe something like this?

If you plan to use Min2 khopeshes, you can swap IC Slash for barb PL; or swap khopesh for barb PL & use scimitars instead.

interesting giving points to strength instead of charisma...i always get nervous when a build requires a +3 tome. i would be happy with just the DM3 (cha 18) as i don't plan on staying around 20 for very long. thanks for your advice! i will definitely take it into consideration...

Yeah, figuring out where to focus your stat pts is a tough call; TWF paladins are hard enough to pull off without the extra challenge of using a -2 CHA race. You could put more lvl-ups into CHA if you really wanted DM IV and/or wanted to skip that +3 CHA tome, but then I'd worry about your to-hit being too low, since you'd always be at least -4 to-hit while TWFing w/khopeshes, -12(!) w/PA + HO PA enhs.

If you're set on TWF, human (or maybe even drow) is likely the better choice here. Especially since you want to spend a feat to get Khopesh on top of that.

Horcs will make great twf paladins at 36 points. At 34 their stats are spread too thin IMO.

After playing with the character planner for a bit, I just dont see a TWF Horc Paladin working well. Half orcs are poor enough at paladins when THF , but with TWF they are just terrible imo. (paladins have extremely tight enhancement points and most of the Horc benefits are via-enhancements and the innate strength (which you didnt take advantage of at all))

You're basically getting all the negative aspects of being a Half orc and getting non of the benefits.

If you absolutely insist on being a HAlf Orc , at least go THF, so you can take advantage of the half orc bonuses and max out your strength. 20-8-16-6-8-14 would work (for 36). Probably only ever get Divine Might 2 but I suppose Horc strengths balance that.

If you're just doing it for flavor, then all the power too you and I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun. But if your aiming for optimal (which is what TRs general represent to me) then you are going to be far from it.

i ended up my getting my TR TWF paladin half-orc to 20 about a week ago http://my.ddo.com/character/ghallanda/liamrage/ and it wasn't a smooth ride but i did it. i did bite off more than i could chew and my DPS suffered. if i could do it again either i would do either THF with divine might or TWF without it. i didn't have enough stat points so either put the points in dex for TWF or cha for divine might. also some free advice to anyone who is getting ready to do the paladin part of their completionist, make sure you do cleric first...no one else gets the benefit of the extra turn besides paladin. i seem to have overlooked that, so i'm sure others may as well.

will be starting my cleric life around november 15th (date of my 20th shroud so i can cleanse a SP item)
