Hmmm...walking around armed in a city originally founded by pirates and the like. A city in which, at least novels and other books, is a haven for criminals, thieves, pirates, cut-throats and the like. Ya...I'd rather have my scimitars sheathed so I look like an over confident idiot to a would-be thief than have them out and make same thief look for another victim. Soooo many people coming to the game (Originally called DDO: Stormreach) since F2P don't even know the history of the game let alone the city. I'd like to see them put in more wandering NPCs in the city, some of them thieves and perhaps even some merc-types in the bars who pick random fights. But that's for another post.

LotRo graphically better? Ok. Never played it so I don't know but it IS created by Turbine and came out HOW LONG after DDO?

Newbies trying the game and leaving citing graphics....and how many of them went back to the cartoonish WoW or came from there? I bet over half at least.

If this game was what everyone wants it to be, I'd wager only the top 3-5% of the current computer systems out there (based on CPU/RAM/Graphics Cards) would even be able to run it. Personally I'm not gonna fork out a couple grand for a computer to play a game on.

Well, not so much MMOs as...

Did you play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on the PC? ****. That's a pretty game.

And I don't think LotRO looks any better than DDO. I actually prefer DDO. Although Rift does look nice, I would call it similar, maybe slightly better in the graphical department.

It doesn't take any extra processing power to flip a model that already exists in the game 90 degrees. Like I said, they do it every time we swing the weapon anyway. Same goes for simple fixes to weird graphical quirks like keeping your weapons/shields out while climbing or swimming. Those are design choices, not graphical limitations, and lousy ones at that.

That being said, while it would definitely be cool to have a way to sheathe your weapon and still have it appear on your back or belt, it's worth pointing out that if you really want to hide them, it's simple to just drag an empty weapon set slot to your toolbar to switch to fists. The Coin Lords DO seem to issue everyone in Stormreach a Bag of Holding, after all, and I know that if I had one of those in real life I'd keep my weapons in there too, rather than strapping them somewhere they'll get in the way, unless I was trying to look intimidating. Bags of Holding are freaking amazing...

Turn on auto attack and he'll hold the weapon over his head, ready to strike.
    Problem solved. You're welcome.

MMOs have to cater to a greater range of hardware and network connectivity options that may limit graphical representations than locally run software does.

After all, if you don't have the minimum hardware requirements for Battlefield you wouldn't buy it to begin with or you would upgrade the system. Bringing Battlefield into the discussion is a non-sequitor.

Its completely true that LOTRO and Guild Wars are light-years ahead of DDO graphically.

Not that it makes a huge difference, I spend twice as much time playing DDO compared to LOTRO and about 100x as much time with those two than Guild Wars.

I do wish DDO would import the LOTRO cosmetic clothing system.....you get 7 different slots (cloak, hat, shoulders, vest, gloves, legs, feet) that actually all make cosmetic changes to your character...and once you slot a cool piece of gear you can keep it displayed even if you dont even own it anymore. HUGE cosmetic flexibility.

Its a little disappointing in DDO to find out that uber piece of armour makes you look like you are wearing a metal diaper.

Not. Barbarians are mountains of meat that rely on STR and rage. Kensai 3 fighters are masters of weaponry and especially their weapon specialization. Kensai 3 is akin to a Jedi with a light saber; sand people are barbarians.

doh! swords don't automatically go into their sheath. you have to manually do it. i believe the control key for that is typing /sheathe

What's even more funny is watching a TWF PC climb a ladder and with each rung, the sword cuts off the hand of the other arm.

    But you know... whatever.

Turbine - just execute a /sheathe command the moment a character starts to climb a ladder. Done.

That doesn't put the weapons on your belt or back. It hides them into some magical void lol
