This. These leathers are highly highly underrated. It offers you a +4 to-hit and the extra +3 to-hit on sneak attacks. Also gives you a blue and colorless slot. But if you have to have DT go with Destruction.

Well the thing is, I can get better SA bonus from Tharne's Goggles, +15 Hide AND +15 MS from epic Dustless Boots (takes some farming, granted), fire res from ship buff and wands, and a DT with desctruction would give the entire party an effective +4 attack, not just me (also, the +4 attack doesn't stack with bard songs).

So, while the eVFL is indeed a very good item, eventually each of its bonuses can be superseded by another item that provides other good bonuses as well. Except the slots, I guess.

    You'll want destruction.

I have a destruction DT armor set just for epics and i'm not badly geared. There are some epic mobs and bosses
that have a crazy ac and if you dont hit, you can just lie down at the start of the quest and wait it out. I find it extremely frustrating to miss.

I happen to know something about your build, I think you'll want it even more then me. You can't assasinate on
    a miss.

The eVFL are just meh in my opinion. The slots are nice, but all the rest is just subpar or a convienience to have.
    DT offers so much versatility.

Use another set for regular quests, earthen guard or radiance are nice ones in amrath with all the glancing blows.

I would do the same. Imo, destruction isn't really worth it as you can get a bigger effect from swaping an imp. destruction weapon, then back to your dps weapons.

I'd go Tharnes for the -20% threat, then load yourself up with the Claw set from Fens. The Tharnes will help offset set the 20% threat gain from the set bonus and +4 to damage to every swing is SWEET - it's like having +8 STR... all the time!

The description on Imp Destruction doesn't match the current implementation...they tweeked it at some point.

So, if you want the -8, you put destruction on DT and then hit it with a Rhal's...or do a weapon set, one with imp and one with regular.
