    Default Windows 7

So I'm shopping for a new computer and they all seem to come with Windows 7....

According to this DDO does not support Window's 7.

So what do I have to do to play DDO on a new computer; also purchase a copy of Windows XP/Vista and then install it over Windows 7?

Why doesn't DDO support Windows 7 yet; its been out for a while now hasn't it?

i fear claims of ddo not working on windows 7 are false.
i have windows 7, i have ddo, it all works fine.

if you are referring to the question:
"Is DDO compatible with Windows 7?"

and the answer of "It's not officially supported yet, but the game runs on it from all reports just as it does on Vista, with a minimal number of issues. Generally, the issues that do come up are very similar to issues that occur on Vista, with the resolutions being the same."

that is.. just that. official, so what if some MS person hasn't been bribed to accept that, yes, it runs.

or alternately, it requires you to possibly change some firewall rules to allow traffic in and out for ddo and since it doesn't do that automatically on all computers, it isn't "compatible"

or.. who knows why. i know it works and if i was you, i wouldn't worry about it.

Amazing, they actually managed to fix forum account post count and stuff without me bug reporting it!
O.o there is hope out there yet!

DDO plays fine on Windows 7. Its just not "officially supported". Anything that works on Vista, works on Win 7, even many drivers built for vista. I upgraded to Win7 64 bit a month after I started playing DDO, and I have not had any issues.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Essentially it boils down to: Yes its not "officially" supported but yes the game does install and run on it.

Primarily the issues that are pinned down to just Win 7 so far are turning out to just be drivers for the sound/video that are pre the full release so they're either early "beta" versions or re-written Vista ones (and usually hastily re-written) so often just updating to the newest versions available for them remedies issues with stability/performance they might cause. (Look in DirectX for drivers dated pre-October 2009)

Most of the other issues the game encounters on 7 it also runs into on Vista and are remedied in mainly the same ways.
