Default Shield Bash and TWF Feats

I would like to propose a suggestion for the now updated shield bash feat. Now that it allows the base 20% Two weapon fighting property that every character gets whether they have the TWF feat or not, is there any way to update the code (and game) to include TWF feats in the computations for percentage chance of doing offhand swing? I would like to cite that you can do such things in the Pen and Paper version of D&D and although DDO is not Pen and Paper it should translate easily.

That being said I do not believe it would be a broken power surge as shields are not optimal weapons at all for one. They should also count as a medium sized weapon (not light in any aspect other then maybe small shield). Regular TWF and THF melee would still do significantly more DPS but a specialized sword and board melee could optimize his setup for offense/defense.

    Thank you for your time.

I don't like the idea of applying TWF feats to shield bashes simply because it detracts from being a dedicated shield specialist. I would prefer the shield feats already in game boost your chance to shield bash.

    I'm with the penguin.

Honestly I would prefer that THF did NOT apply to DWA and Bastard Sword simply because it adds to the inefficiency of the combat form. I really like DWA and Bastard Swords having Glancing Blows but I would prefer those to be their own thing.

Sword and Board is its own Style and should not be subject to another styles feats.

I would be all for Shield Proficiency granting an initial 10% Shield Bash Proc and Improved Shield Bash adding the 20% on to it.

additionally there could be Feat related Enhancements that improve Shield Bash Proc as well

    Bashing I
    Cost: 1AP
    Prerequisite: Improved Shield Bash
Benefit: +5% chance to Shield Bash

    Bashing II
    Cost: 1AP
    Prerequisite: Bashing I
Benefit: +5% chance to Shield Bash

    Bashing III
    Cost: 1AP
    Prerequisite: Bashing II
Benefit: +5% chance to Shield Bash

    Bashing IV
    Cost: 1AP
    Prerequisite: Bashing III
Benefit: +5% chance to Shield Bash

This would total 50% chance to Shield Bash with the Feat and all Enhancements.

If that is too high well just lower Improved Shield Bash to +15% and make the Enhancements top out at 3 tiers and 15%.

Could do the same thing with Bastard Swords improve the Proc Rate through Enhancements

Rule 2: Its all small stuff

To Coolpenguin and Aesop. I must say I don't disagree with your evaluations and would not mind seeing that sort of incarnation if the TWF line concept is not taken into affect. Saying that though again I would prefer to use the Two Weapon Fighting feat line in combination with the Imp Shield Bash that is in place, as using a shield as an offhand attack is not a defensive mechanic. Two Weapon fighting already ups the 20% for offhand to 40% with ITWF and GTWF bringing the total to 80% offhand (very similar to TWF in the pen and paper game). Imp Shield Bash should just enable this mechanic to work with shields as weapons in my opinion.

But as I said more ideas is not a bad thing on the matter and neither of those are bad alternative ideas from my viewpoint.

If one or more of these ideas were implemented, shields like Ward of Undeath might not end up in the pawn so much. Spiked shields could do pierce damage, edged ones could do slashing. Just by using a shield of stunning, it might proc. Grant it, the devs would be forced to come up with the ugliest designed shields ever so they could sell a kit to cover it out of the DDO store, but it may be an evil we are willing to accept.
