Default How about an "Upgrade effect" shard?

Since every item (not shard) created is bound to character and therefore can't be sent to the "hand me down" storage bin when it becomes too weak for current level ....

.... how about a shard to upgrade an effect?

Create a +1 weapon with acid touch, need a more powerful version you basically have to destroy your current weapon. Instead how about a shard to allow you to upgrade a +1 to +2 to +3? Acid touch to Acid then later Acid Burst? All following the same effect line, I wouldn't expect to be able to constantly swap acid to cold to etc etc, just upgrade.

It could be nice, but disjuncting the item and redoing the shards isn't exactly a big deal. Shards themselves don't cost much. But that might change with unbound crafting shards, depending on how they're implemented.

If they want to put the time into it, I'd say just pop a message box when trying to apply a prefix or suffix to an item that already has one, asking if you want to overwrite it, if the new shard is an upgrade of the old one.

I don't think it's necessary to have a way to recoup the costs of the old shard, i.e., it's fine if upgrading Acid to Acid Burst costs the same as applying Acid Burst in the first place.

The only difference would be that the enhancement bonus and suffix would not be lost.

Being able to overwrite would be kewl, I just figured the devs would want some sort of "cost" associated with such an action.
