I guess I forgot to post but the same night I posted my testing my wife logged into her account and we watched the memory climb (kinda like watching grass grow but faster.) Before she had even logged into her character she'd hit 500MB of memory. We'd hit 1.2Gb memory after she logged in and started running some quests (this is just the DNDclient.exe.)

Hehe. True. That helps to narrow down the source of lag.

Also noticed if you buy them and zone out of the crafting area there is no loading screen and you can just keep on walking, once it's done fitting them in your bag a loading screen comes and your still standing in the spot like before the screen.

So, are loading screens just fake ?
Don't we actually need to wait ?

I suspect some of the lag is caused by Angel of Vengeance. As a Favored Soul, take a look at the amount of AoV-induced spam generated in your combat log when there are multiple mobs and you're moving around (mobs are constantly entering/leaving the radius for AoV). That may not be "the" source, but based on TWF combat log lag pre-U5, I'd be surprised if it wasn't significant.

    Server: Cannith
    Quest: Bastion of Power
    Time: 09:50pm - 10:20pm
Party: Paladin 18, Sorcerer 20 and Favored Soul 20

A persistent lag affecting all party members. It was more intense while fighting, less while only walking, but it still laging. The network status was showing normal numbers (latency 180ms, loss 0%). After leave the dungeon the lag ceased.

    Default lag spikes

    Server: Thelanis
Quest: not in quest just in 1 ear bugbear tavern
    Time: 07:00 GMT
    Party: Fighter 7th

Just logged in getting lag spikes just trying to walk around -

Found I was able to get rid of lag spikes by (alt + enter) going into window mode from full screen mode

    Server: Argonnessen
    Time: 7-8pmGTM (approx.)

Got my first bad lag today while standing utterly still by the crafting machines in House K - could attack and tumble, but not jump or move in any direction. This happened a couple of times, then I kept rubberbanding on the way to the Subterrane (jumping back every few steps). And when I got to the marketplace entrance to the Sub, it took about a minute of freezing before everything started moving again and I could enter. At this point I restarted everything in hopes of clearing it up, but it just lagged for about another minute before responding again when I logged back in. When I finally got to VoD, it lagged so badly that I was unable to enter the quest properly - the portal vanished before taking me through (I had clicked on it a few times in desperation, after the initial click, but nothing happened).

The lag has been getting worse until the point where it's now just hazardous - can be snapped back into fatal trouble or shot down by things that don't even appear on the screen.

(I had no trouble connecting with anywhere else on the internet, btw - everything was as speedy as ever - it's just DDO).

    11 pm - gmt. 01/06/2011, orien

wiped in shroud due to lag - casters were unable to land spells, mele unable to land hits, lag experienced by every one.

    2 am - 92/06/2011, orien

    Solo in zawabis revenge.
intermitant freezing, spells not landing - unplayable game at this point.

The interesting point is that the game played fine inbetween these times, did a few raids and some solo stuff no problem.

have to say im taking a few days off from ddo at this point. the lag has got so bad as to make the game unplayable. it seems totaly random when it strikes but its prety much guarenteed to wipe a party if your doing anything even remotely chalenging, atleast its being taken seriously.

    Default Server: Sarlona

    Quest: Shadow crypt.

Time: Hasn't mattered for myself happens everytime.

Length of issue: After Update 9 Patch 1.

Symptom: For lack of better words I experience " minni lag spikes " not an extreme hindering problem but the random freeze frame every few seconds can become quite annoying and very fast, as when you are doing a maze you can quickly lose track of your party. It's also difficult for casters who need to face a target to be able to hit it.

I know there are occasional lag spikes that effect everyone but to me they are unusual, client lag is far more frequent. And I have a primary suspect.

Last night I had horrible lag in ToD. Horrible. But I was the only one, and it didn't take me too long to narrow in on why: dndclient.exe was using over 1.2 gig of mem. I was fortunate to be able to complete the quest at all.

My girlfriend has similar issues, when she zones several times her frame rate slows to a crawl and eventually her client crashes (BSOD).

Something about the log out process does not free memory. Ditto the zoning process.

    Memory leaks = Client lag

BTW the leak seems worse after Update 9 but I have no metrics, maybe I am just imagining that.
I definitely agree with this post. The client fps seems fine until you start zoning several times, play several quests/raids or the game has been running for a while. Then the fps really slows down. There definitely needs a more thorough investigation into what seems to be significant memory leaks causing the fps deterioration.

Sunday June 5 2011 Orien. From when I logged on aroung 2p.m. till now at 7 p.m. the servers been lagging and will probably continue to be laggy. Everyone seems to be experiencing it its not isolated to individual players are parties. Asked guild and public chat when it hits everyone's lagging on server. Guildies in completely different areas, people in completely differect quests, across instances. Party Makeup and DPS don't appear to be causing it as its hitting when no fights are going on mostly. When it hits Ray type and aoe spells are not hitting targets and players are rubberbanding. Some quests like coal chamber are completely unplayable. This is becoming extremely annoying. I hope the devs can fix it.

    Default ToD lag on orien

On Orien server Epic Fail normal Sunday ToD run at 1900 gmt. Full party of 12 3 fvs, 1 cleric, 2 wizzies, 1 ftr, 1 AA, 1 monk (lt side), 1 rogue, 2 barb. Saw random lag spikes prior to entering on guild airships getting buffs. Frame rates on my system dropping down at times to 8 fps no latency and loss nominal on a wireless dsl conection. All party members reported similar spikes and drop sin frame rates. I reset client multiple times before entering quest and tweeked my Nvidia gts 450 card settings multiple times. Frame rates leveled out a bit.

On the way to part one had some decent spikes with only blade barriers up casters not casting any ice storms or any cc spells just using necrotic blast and bolts. Part one had a couple spikes when the mobs arrived. Part 2 shadows, massive lag fvs kiting and could not see the shadows on him then all of a sudden they were on us. had multiple bb's down to tkae aggro but was not seeming to do anything. Wiped.

Went in again give it another shot. Same jerky stutter stepping on the way to part one. part one went a little nicer this time not as much lag that I could see. Part 2 shadows yet again extreme lag. Only blade barries out casters not throwing any cc on the boss just stacking their spells electric surge as well as fvs and myslef as the cleric stacking divine punishment. Shadows were on the kiter then out of no where on us. Tried to heal threw as the kiter attempted to gain aggro back. Was watching my mana bar and saw minimal loss of sp even though I was playing piano on my keyboard to get heals out quickly and keep us alive. Heals were landing and I could see numbers going up as could other party members but my SP bar was going almost no where was like i had unlimited SP for a time. Of course wiped again and gave up after that.

Switched to other characters of mine and went into other quests with maybe one or two party members and saw similar stutter steps but not as bad as the raiding of course as to it is only a regular quest and not that detrimental most times.

I hope some of the imformation people have given is helping get to the bottom of the issue. If not please let us know so we can try to come up with more information for you.

    Unhappy Orien lag

Ok have another one for you today at 11:00 am gmt. in wiz king with party make up of 1 cleric, 1 wiz, 1 rogue, 1 barb, 1 monk, 1 fighter; on Normal. Ran it 2x's with little to no lag. Had recently reset clients before starting. On a side note took me 30 mins to successfully log into game as a vip as well, kept getting "server too full message". On third run dropped the barb and then noticed immediate lag spikes. Frozen in place with enemies still doing damage to us, swinging weapons and casting spells to no avail. After about 8 secs would clear then appear again. once the lag spike was over massive swings and spell points were lost from spells. Continued threw out quest. Finally succeeded but was unbearable. Also Wizard got burning blood from enemy caster and was unable to remove it, even after death. Spell did not show in upper right corner as being active and took a client reset to clear it ( I suggested the reset as I have personally seen the same thing before on my cleric). Not the first time I have had this happen nor will it be the last I am sure.

The lag is getting to the point now that it is to where I don't want to play anymore and waste my time and resources, as other guildies are feeling the same way. I currently pay for 4 VIP accounts and this is just horrendous to be dealing with if I am paying for the service. I realize that digging thru code is a pain and to try and figure out a cause of this as I do coding myself. With all this lag and complaints from others I am wondering why either outside resources are not being used and if they are why have we heard nothing of it yet. I am not opposed to taking servers down either to get to the bottom of this.

I play to relax and have fun and help others as a guild leader both in my guild and out. I can do none of these things at this time. While trying to log into Orien and getting "server too full messages" I logged into gallanda just fine, one of my first servers I played on and saw no such lag during that time running around the harbor checking my mail. Are servers just getting too full? Are resources being over utilized? Is there a memory leak? Who knows at this time but not giving us feedback is starting to wear on me and I know others feel the same way.

Thank you for your time and hope a solution comes soon or we get some feedback. Sorry about the rant but I am just at my wits end watching everyone suffer through this.

Not lag, but I get a lot more blue screens since U9. Often on entering the crafting hall.

I get the FPS slow down with 4GB of RAM free. The client uses up to about 1.5GB I've noticed.

Runs buttery smooth starting out, but after awhile it degrades. Logging in/out with another character ALWAYS causes significant FPS drop , but sometimes it will happen without logging. Turning details down from medium-highish to lowest settings barely helps (Core i7 1.6GHz quad core, Radeon 5830 HD, 8GB RAM, 160GB Intel SSD, Windows 7)

Every single raid instance I have been in is laggy.

The subterenne is like a comic book.

Judge fight in ToD was incredibly laggy. Last fight heals wouldnt land, potions wouldnt take and was hard to play.

Shroud is bad on the two large fights.

    Its crazy...please unbreak this.
