Default VOTE: I have the name Drizzt Do' Urden

Ok, I have the infamous name # 1042 or Drizzt Do' Urden. Yes EXACT spelling. But...one problem I don't want to make him a drow Ranger... because well he'll be gimp.

Should I make him a TWF Drow Ranger?

[Yes, because thats the only Drizzt that makes sense]
    [No, don't be gimp]

you cant have the first name drizzt, tried outa interest, but the thing stops you "your character may not have that name" not "someone else has taken that name". So... screenshot? maybe only me?

also, stops hating on drizzt, sure hes popular, and was the origin of, not a cliche (in fantasy novels that is, he was the first major one), doesnt mean he sucks. yeesh.

didnt say he was ultimate cool :P, just said he wasnt the "totally lame, ima change his name to something different that sounds bad" character many forumites like to portray (and they probably havent even read salvatore)

EDIT- negged, evidently soemone either hates drizzt, or doesnt believe me on teh named thing :O

And so what if it's copyrighted?

    Watch this:

    My name is Chuck Norris.

Wow, look, I'm still alive. Nazi soldiers didn't burst into my room and carry me off screaming into the night. Anyone who thinks copyright law is at all applicable in a situation where a person chooses a pen name in order to maintain anonymity in a community needs to stop swallowing propaganda by the mouthful. Any corrupt fool of a judge who wants to rule it so needs to be disbarred and any police officer willing to enforce such laws is more akin to a mindless mafia thug than a protector of justice.

Oh look, my forum name TheDjinnFor just happens to have the word Djinn in it. Doesn't Dungeons and Dragons have a creature named the same thing?! Even worse, I've typed it twice now in this paragraph! WotC is going to sue me for copyright violation! Oh no!

What are we living in, the Dark Ages? Jeez.

I would respond to this, but if you are Chuck Norris, I don't want you to hunt me down, rip out my beating heart, steal my wife, and drink all my tequila.

Wait a minute...if you promise to just steal my wife, I will respond.

Far more frivolous actions have been won in court for the smallest of violations these days. In the land of more lawyers than cops, there are people who now owe record labels millions of dollars in reparations for downloading a file to their hard drive. Unbelievable.

Usually the artist or creator doesnt care. Its the company, or in the case of music, the record label, who comes down on singel users and demands large sums of money to be paid as penalty for some minor infraction that didnt make the "violator" a red cent.

Someone isnt going to get sued or prosecuted for a name in an MMO, because the company would just rename the toon if they feel it violates the policy. I saw this in EQ1 alot. The DMs would actually freeze your toon and stand over you while you renamed it. Usually it was someone playing their favorite character from a book or movie series.

You would be surprised at how many "naming police" players there are who will report your name if its a popular character.

    1) Djinn is a well known creature of legend that did not originate with Dungeons and Dragons. It is not copyrighted.

    2) Turbine's ToS says that you cannot use certain types of names. Turbine will ignore all violations of its naming policy for as long as it can, but if someone reports a naming violation they are likely to enforce their stated rules. Brownshirts won't come to your home and drag you away, but you will probably be renamed to something stupid if you have a character with a naming violation and you are reported.

Only VIPs and Premium users who paid within the past 30 days can report a naming violation, so feel free to **** off as many F2P players as you would like.

Why bother with lawyers and judges. They will just rename it and forget about it.

    DDO Character Naming Policy
The following are examples of character names and guild names that are NOT appropriate for Dungeons&Dragons Online. Some names that do not fall within one of the examples below may still be inappropriate. Dungeons&Dragons Online Support has final say over what constitutes a violation of the character naming policy.
    • Proper names and places or close facsimiles thereof, from the story characters or non-player characters (NPCs) introduced in the fiction of Dungeons&Dragons Online.
    • Fantasy or non-fantasy names from popular culture or media.
    • Sexually explicit, defamatory, obscene, racially or ethnically offensive names or slang.
    • Names of historical or religious significance.
    • Trademarked names of products, goods, materials or services.
    • Common names, slang or references to drug related substances, culture or paraphernalia.
    • Names containing ranks, titles or denotation of power.
    • Names causing harm, mockery or imitation of Dungeons&Dragons Online players, NPCs in addition to Turbine, Inc. employees, past or present.
    • Common names, slang words, phrases or references not consistent with the Dungeons&Dragons universe.
    • Misspelled variations or homonyms of any of the above rules.

The rule you highlighted in red makes it against the rules to name a character after a NPC or character presented in the story line of DDO. That makes it "illegal" to name your character Haywire, Goodblade or after a hireling ect....

Really the one you were looking for is right below that [*]Fantasy or non-fantasy names from popular culture or media.

    just saying.

I should point out that I have never seen these two in particular being enforced, and don't see why they're even violations in the first place.
