    Default Why not spanish?

Since they're already using french and german, why's the reason not to add spanish language to the list? IMO, it would be a good step in order to get more base players who are actually discouraged to play as they find the game harder than it really is, just because all the descriptions and texts are in a "foreign" language (I know there're some guys that think everyone's entitled to speak/read english, but the world just doesn't work that way). Well, just a suggestion.

    Cheers all.

I would bet that Portuguese would cover a larger number of players than spanish.....so I would expect that to come before Spanish.

But I have nothing against the Devs spending time on any language that will either expand or retain the player base.

Well, I dont know if it is the famous "snake biting his tail" (la serpiente que se muerde la cola).
There are not so much spanish speaking players because there is no translation, and there is no translation because there are not so much spanish speaking players.

You are right. I am living in Germany (but I am from Madrid) and was living in some other strange countries, and sometimes I dont know... in Germany they use the snake. First I thought "la sardina que se muerde la cola"... but no, it did not sound right , so I thought harder and came to the snake (serpiente).

German and French language option were included as part of the European expansion. So, while I agree Spanish would be neat seen in context with Europe it made more sense to include the languages most common there. The top three European languages are:

English (spoken as either first or second language by 51%* of Europe's population).
German (spoken as either first or second language by 32%* of Europe's population).
French (spoken as either first or second language by 26%* of Europe's population).

For comparison Spanish is spoken (as first or second language) only by 15%* of Europe's population. That's even less than Italian (spoken as first or second language by 16%* of Europe's population).

    * Yes, I am aware that this adds up to more than 100%; in Europe most people speak at least two languages. Most German's, for instance, learn English as second language from grade school on.

    Cool

It is not that we are few, we are hidden, but not by choice. If not by belonging to a Spanish speaking guild there is almost no way of knowing if that person not using voice chat or with a slight non-recognizable accent might be another latino.

And furthermore, how many of those latinos visit these forums to /sign a petition for a Spanish forum?

I must admit, I feel kind of alienated by those non-english forums, I did not have that feeling before those existed.

    Que sera, sera.

Portugese and italian would make far more sense than Spanish. Brazilians and Italians outnumber spanish speakers like 100:1 on Cannith.

I think you are right. On a second thought, if they would translate to spanish, in a few seconds you would have a troop of basks, galicians and catalans protesting (oh-oh... I shouldnt have written that )

And most (but not all) English speak.... English

I think the expression with the "snake" or whatever biting its own tail would be referred to as a vicious circle in English.

Spanish speakers in world.. roughly 480 millions. Portuguese ones 270 millions. Italian 90 millions... So.. who outnumbers who? As someone pointed out, Spanish is spoken in Spain, Central/South America (aside from Brazil) and still in use in some african countries and in Filipines.

I don't know about the actual ratio spanish/portuguese on any server, but I think is a hard fact to know.. I mean, not many people in my server (Thelanis) know I'm spanish at all. Reason? Politeness. When I join a party/raid, I assume that the main language is english. And since "everyone" knows it, that's the language I'm gonna use, so unless you asked me where I come from, you'll never know.

Mandarin with roughly 1.365 billion speakers. World numbers mean very little. You need to see it in context. French and German were a marketing move to break deeper into the European market. Turbine ever decides to include Spanish or Portugese it will likely be depend on in-game population rather than world statistics (similar to how they did not include Russian into the European expansion even though there are roughly 275 million Russian speakers in Eurasia).

Sad but true. It was an expansion to Europe, not to Southamerica or "the world".
I guess their marketing team also check ADSL conections, conection prices, and so on.
Not mentioning Forocoches, Spain is not a heavy weight in Internet sales or similar.

I know world numbers are not the main factor here, just used that data to point out that, despite of what seems to be a common believe, spanish is used in more countries than just Spain, and its native speakers are a number way higher the those with italian or portuguese, opposingly as someone meant before.

To be honest, the main reason I came to this game is there was no spanish translation! (and yes, I'm spanish). Just suggesting it now for two reasons:

1 - It seemed it could be a nice marketing step for Turbine in order to expand its business.

2 - I want my girlfriend to leave that nasty WoW and join the ranks of DDO players! But she will not because she's terrible at english! I even managed to get her into pnp d&d, DDO is what is left!

    I Eoraip?
