Orien Newbie

Just a quick post after my first 2 months of play here on DDO , after playing another MMORPG for a few years I decided to have a break and try something new. I have to say that I have been made to feel welcome by many players and have received a lot of excellent advice , even standing at the Marketplace AH - which I tend to do a lot - I have been engaged in conversation by a lvl 20 players who have been genuinely helpfull and friendly.
Now after getting to lvl 15 I am still enjoying as much as the washing up the shore and completing that first quest and looking forward to the guild I am in getting our first airship etc.
So again many thanks to those that hae given help and advice so far

Reminds me of when I first started playing DDO. I was so shy, and it was only when I started asking for advice and making friends and stuff like that that I actually began to enjoy the game.

Very nice to hear! Orien has some great guilds and great people. Lots of friendly competition and a lot of fun and mindless banter go on during Raids and Parties a lot. I like it.

many thanks again for the replys !! , I am in small guild called Dragonriders , we are level 16 guild atm and it has been fun watching the guild levels going up closer to lvl 20.

I guess it just shows you what you can do if you concentrate on playing only 1 character rather than....well...a whole bunch.

I am still loving the game , however doubts about my build have crept in after experiencing the Shroud for the first time.
Currently I am halfway through level 17 and am flagged for Tor and Shroud , however I am painfully aware that with my AC 35 (parasitic breastplate) that I am a mana drain on the healers (although i do carry 50 heal pots). Also although I have some not bad weaps: Infectious Hooked Blade , Destructive Hooked Blade , +4 Cold Iron Vorpal , +5 GS Khopesh , +4 Icy burst khopesh of pure good , these are not good enough for end boss , however the prices at AH for Holy burst etc wow ,ouchie expensive for me.
Also the items that I want to make my TWF better (Bloodstone , Spectral Gloves etc) are also so expensive.
I have been thinking about using this character as a multiple TR build , using monk , paladin , cleric and fvs and if it is worth the time and effort?
Also the guild is now level 18 and getting closer to our airship

Any advice , help , suggestions please ty.

Without knowing a bit more about your character it is very hard to give advice, so I'll just go for generalities:

- Unless you focus on AC, plan for it, and are prepared for some serious grinding to get it, forget about it. But if you insist, you'll need a 75 AC for ToD. *(You'll also need 650 hps to go with that AC for ToD)

- As a more viable plan B, just focus on having lots of hitpoints and lots of DPS. mid 550s as a non-main tank are enough, but more can't hurt of course. If you're a barbarian or fighter that plans to hate tank ToD 800 should be your goal.

- Look into crafting! Making seeker items isn't that difficult, you should be able to make yourself a seeker 4 trinket easily, and eventually upgrade it to seeker 6, at least cheaper than a bloodstone.

- Absolutely get a DR breaking weapon. (Weapons if dual wielder) . If you're a paladin, it's easy, aside from the knight of the chalice PrE, use your free paladin sword spell to create a rather nice FREE +5 holyburst silver cold iron byeshk boss beater weapon. (This is also why paladins are good newbie characters )

- If not a paladin, find a blank silver weapon (or get one from the store) and add holy to it. +3 holy silver is serviceable, and not THAT difficult to make. (Not that easy either, but it's a good goal to have)

Many thanks for that information , Paladin info very interesting indeed. Currently I am lvl 17 (near to 18) TWF fighter with 30 Str , 25 Dex , and 22 Con and around 400HP , I realise my role is support to main battle tank as such so am trying to go for high crits and vorpal etc.
These Ac and Hp amounts are scary high atm , but I tell myself am still very new to the game and be patient

Those weapons sound fine for ones first life, especially if you not at shroud yet. What I'd suggest though is going with a spare set of DR breaking weapons for those situations that call for it. There are plenty of options now, and any sort of silver+good or mettaline+good will get you into a shroud. Don't consign yourself to just khopeshes for this situation, since you'll likely just be crafting say a Mineral II Greensteel Khopesh after enough shrouds.
As for bloodstone and spectral gloves and stuff of that nature, the only real advice I can give on that is to Farm Farm Farm. You might get really lucky and have somebody give you one, but for the prices on the AH, and their overall trade value, they'll always be in relatively high demand and therefore expensive.

Once you hit 20, be sure to run a lot of epics. The more you run, the more scrolls and trade worthy things you'll amass. These can be sold for a reasonably high price on the auction house.

I'd also suggest starting to level your crafting skills, since those are going to be more and more important for having great equipment.

Well latest exciting development is that our guild Dragonriders now has its first Airship exciting to buy it and jump onboard for the first time....
Also nearly at level 19 now exactly 2 months after starting , done my first TOR run and first reavers fate and shroud , trying to level up in crafting and get GS sword ingredients , so much to learn and collect !!!!
Again tho after only pugging the whole time I can say that I am still meeting and playing with some really helpfull and knowledgeable players THANK YOU ALL !!!

Well how times change , from my first post ever in May I have taken Vyxern to lvl20 and she is now TR'd and has 2 levels of Rogue for the lovely Evasion and is slowly making her way back to lvl20 (currently at 7) , also I now have Vyperz a 20th lvl FVS which I am loving playing.
I have changed guilds and am now a member of Day Breakers and have to say they have been totally amazing helping me and putting up with my "newbie" questions
Still I am amazed at the amount of helpfull players I have run into in my short time playing (5 months) and am looking forward to CC for the first time.
Love the game and love the players long may it continue.
