Shield is a hot swap do turtling after laying down your AoEs, not a constant equip.
Ah, see I don't use a sheild to turtl up, though that COULD be due to the fact stoneskin works in my favor, frees up one of my equip slots for something more important (like green blade, since many AoE's reroll the damage every tick and +9% to crit chance is nice). That and I tend to just kill everything around me, without using damage spells. I rely on my 3 insta-kill spells and a few single target spells anyway.
I'd rather have 200 in stoneskin then to have to constantly switch back and forth between a sheild and something else. Guess that's just me though.

I had started a thread about a month ago proposing that the devs move some spells out of level 4 in order to make it a little less over-stuffed, in particular for fire and acid savants and pale masters.
My proposal had been to move Burning Blood and either Death Aura or Negative Energy Burst to level 5.
