Default Harbinger of Madness adventure pack quest XP is too low

I ran the full chain of Harbinger of Madness quests at level this week on a 3rd life TR, along with a guildy who knew the quests inside and out from farming items. The atmosphere of the quests are spooky, and the Taken graphic models are unnerving, like a great HP Lovecraft story. Huge thumbs up to the designers and artists for capturing this mood.

The big let down is the anemic XP reward from the first three quests in the chain, and the so-so XP reward from the final quest. If you want to make this adventure pack more attractive, then boost the XP rewards. Bumping XP by 50% wouldn't even put them in range of the best quests to do while TRing. With the current XP rewards, I won't ever do this quest chain again at level, and I won't recommend it as a purchase to other players.

    I totally agree with u.
The new mod seems to be "let's put some nice stuffs in so people would buy the pack".
And I'm one of those people who bought this only for the loot -_-

PS: none of u have noticed where that awesome bracers drops?

That might be why XP is so low? You can have good XP, or you can have good loot, but not both? My 14 cleric has both the bracers and the staff, so I'm pretty happy with the pack, but I can see where a TR with plenty of previous-life gear might not be as enthusiastic about them as a first-lifer

Since the loot is soo boring, the potentially awesome pack goes into "once and done" category on my list. What a waste.

Personally, I love the pack. The xp isn't that bad. One mission is what, maybe 10 min max? It sort of reminds me about the Dreaming Dark. People complain about the XP on them, but they are so short and are able to be soloed fairly easily.

I agree with you about the items. Insanity is novelty only, just for the amusement factor for being larger than the Scrag Greatclub graphic. The rest are meh: ML is too high or the combination of abilities just isn't attractive. There's absolutely nothing I'd use while TRing or leveling a new character.

Only two of the items from the chain truly appeal to me. The quarterstaff for Monk splashed Clerics/FvS's to remain centred when levelling; and the bracers for the ability to get toughness while wearing a Sora Kell set when levelling. The bracers being level 14 cuts into their usefulness a bit.

I felt the chain was average in experience. Reasonably fast, but not as good of exp/min as the Dreaming Dark quests or Running With the Devils is. Still, the variety is nice, so I don't have to repeat Gianthold elites or the more annoying Vale normals as much.

Depends what you're running, I guess.

The rapier is a nice little dr breaker for non-GS alts.

The dagger is, frankly, what the epic Spy Dagger should have been (minus the self curse): interesting debuff, a GS effect, plus Deception.

Even with the self curse, it's quite nice on a rogue when you don't need to beat DR...lot of synergies with crowd control and caster insta-kills.

The bow is pretty sweet (if I had someone who used longbows...)

The living armor looks pretty nifty...if it got something cool in the upgrade...off topic, but why do the new light armors seem to get the BS AC bumps while medium gets the goodies like resists, sfl, dr. etc?

I was able to get over 1k per minute out of both the 1st and 3rd quests, though not the last. Perhaps you guys did not properly split up the optionals.

Incidently, I was also soloing. On a melee. I am sure I could get the quest to over 1k a minute without first-time bonuses in a full group who knew how to farm the quests.

I do not expect new stuff to replace doubleshard GS weapons/acessories or eClaw/Abishai sets. That would be absurd. But at least they could have made situationally useful items, convenience items or neat clickies.

    Default XP/min

XP/min is not the focus of alot of DDO players, and those of use that utilize xp farming tactics know what quests to do it in...

Didn't know it was the Devs responsibility to make XP farmable content for us...

Most the loot is an alternative to already available loot but with different flavors...

The new quests are a "Themed" story line and can be enjoyed as such...

But the best idea would be a 10'x10' room full of wet paper bags AC 2, 1 hp, THAC0 100, 1d2 -4 damage worth 50k xp each and drop 3d6 epic scrolls per mob and tokens tradeable for Deities and Demigod powers of your choice

It is reasonable to say "hey, time/risk/reward is borked in quest A, pls take a look at it".

Been done before, and worked out reasonably well (e.g. the necro series).

Considering how overbearingly easy these quest are combined with how good and unique some of the loot is, I think it's exactly as much expee as it should be. In trying to get all of the end rewards from the chain that i wanted, I got nearly two full levels on a first lifer. I call that a HUGE win. Also, some of the quests are very different from the rest of the game, which provides a nice alternative to the usual mowing-down of hordes of undead I usually have to do around that level.
