    Exclamation Help

Redownloaded DDO client after receiving this error:
After the download im still getting this error.
The download did not install a desktop icon. I attempted to run it it from the program files with the same error. Nor did it create a folder in the "all programs" menu.
    Any help would be appreciated

Anyone? Does it have to do with the Pando Media booster?

There's a KB Article here that can help with this one.

Be aware that one of the possible causes of this is a malware that alleges to be "System Recovery" or similar but is actually hiding files/folders on the system pretending it can "restore them" (for a fee of course).

The first line (Access to path is denied) makes me think it's a user priviledge issue. Did you install as the owner/administrator?

You may want to try installing again. Make sure you have administrator priviledges, and that you're accepting any UAC dialogs that come through.

(I'm just spitballing, here. Good luck!)

    Looks like a filesystem problem.

I assume you are logging in as "Dad".
Have you tried deleting the file it is trying to overwrite?
    c:\users\dad\appdata\local\turbine\dungeons and dragons online\launcher\news.html

If the file cannot be deleted, try renaming the directory "launcher" to something else.
If that doesn't work, try renaming the "turbine" directory.

(in red) this takes me to IE and is a functional website. Unable to find this file on my computer.....c:\users\dad\appdata\local\turbine\dungeons and dragons online\ file is empty

    I also followed these directions:
If you continue to receive the error after all the above, make sure that the game launcher is fully closed out (you might want to reboot the pc again as a "just in case") and then perform these steps below:
    1. Click on the Windows "Start" button and click "Run" or into "Start Search".
    2. Type (or copy/paste) the following command, depending on which game is giving the error exactly as detailed below hitting enter when done:
    3. %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online\Launcher
    4. Or:
    5. %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Turbine\Dungeons and Dragons Online\Launcher
Upon opening that folder, find either the "News.html" file or the "Alerts.html" file detailed in the error (They might just show up as "News" or "Alerts") and right-click whichever one was indicated in the error and delete the file. Relaunch the game to test.

and found only text files, nothing that i can right-click to delete.

Try the steps in the article in the "Important Note" section about turning off the "Hidden" attribute for the (in your case) "Dad" folder.

Make sure you check for that malware also just to be safe.

I've run 3 types of malware/virus/spyware removal software with neg results except adware. My dad folders' "hidden attribute" was not checked. I turned off the UAC and disabled my firewall and virus protection. I also uninstalled ddo again and reinstalled it from the DDO HiRes installation on my desktop (downloaded this morning).

    HELP
    Try this:
    1. Click on the Windows "Start" button and choose "Compter"
    2. In there double-click on your "C" drive (it might show up as "Local disk C")
    3. In there doubule-click on "Users" and then "Dad"
    4. Now in there click on the 'Organize' button and choose "Folder and Search Options" from the menu
    5. In there under the "View" tab find the "show hidden files and folders" option and click to select it
    6. Click ok and you should now see "AppData" listed in there
    7. Double-click on that, and then the "Local" folder inside of it
    8. Now in "Local" double-click on "Turbine" then "Dungeons and Dragons Online"
    9. Lastly in there open the 'Launcher' folder

You should now see your launcher logs and possibly "Alerts" and/or "News" (they are the html files in question).

If you do not go back up one folder (click the "back" button in the upper left corner) and now left click to select the Launcher folder, now at this point first make sure that the DDO launcher is closed and once it is, then right-click on the "Launcher" folder and choose "Delete".

    Relaunch DDO to test.
