    Default Rogue and ?

My husband and I are wanting to build some toons to run together, sorta like our version of date night.

I will be running a casting specked Human Favor Soul, with some healing abilities.

My husband would like a toon that will compliment mine. He would like to be able to melee and have some trap abilities, basically a well rounded versatile toon.

We were thinking 2 Rogue/ 18 Ranger, taking the tempest line. But I've seen some 2 Rogue/ 18 Bards that are very versatile and do decent melee. Then I got to wondering if Rogue and Monk would work well together. He does know that he would like at least 2 levels of Rogue on this toon, he was thinking going human as well.

So I would like some input from the community as to what you think would work best and why. Also any possible links to existing builds that could be referred to, might be helpful.

This toon would be on a P2P account, so we do have access to all races and classes.

You might consider an "exploiter" build Ranger: 18 ranger, 1 rogue, 1 monk. This build can do all of the trapy/locky/roguey things. It also can achieve a very high armor class and tank any enemy in the game. It also does very solid melee damage. It would make a great pairing with your FS.

That sounds like an intresting build, and something that my husband could get into. Could someone post a link to a copy of it, my search skills on the forums are very lacking.

Here's my own version of it (the write-up is a bit dated, but still relevant):

I've always been a fan of the jack-of-all-trade concepts. However, all of my initial attempts to make one ended up with characters that couldn't regularly contributed in top-end, A-game raids. Then came the exploiter.

    What it does:

    1) top game dps
    a) near untouchable attacks/sec (twf, itwf, gtwf, tempest III, rogue attack speed boost)
    b) reasonably high STR (32 base (+4 tome consumed; +7 item), 34 rams, +2 exceptional from ToD ring 36, 38 rage, 40 ship buff, 42 madstone, 44 double madstone, 46 store pot, 48 yugo pot--+6 harbor clicky could get it to 54)
    c) power attack
    d) 1d6 rogue sneak attack (when no agro; tharnes set to add sneak attack damage and reduce hate)
    e) gear space and feats for big hitting items: dual minII kopeshes, bloodstone, Tharnes goggles, madstone boots
    f) full favored enemy damage boost against evil outsider, elemental, undead, and giants
    g) high ranged damage when needed; manyshot, high STR, high dex, Abbot ranged alacrity, improved precise shot - crits for over 200
    h) extra slash damage from ToD tempest set

    2) great survivability
    a) high AC (while attacking--no turtling) (80+ in full raid buffs; mid-70s with standard raid buffs; high 60s to low 70s self buffed)
    b) decent hps (475 base--missing +3 con tome, 495 once I get it; 515 with ship buff; can boost to mid 600s when needed with con pots and rages)
    c) high saves (buffed--all 30 and over; 33 and over against favored enemy--which is nearly all enemies)
    d) evasion (buffed reflex save in the high 30s)
    e) UMD heal scrolls (can hit 44 UMD; normally mid to high 30s when in dps or AC mode)
    f) full self-buffing (bark, freedom, elemental resists and protect; all cleric and caster scroll use via UMD; stoneskin from minIIs)
    g) healing spells
    h) lots of sp (mid 700s; 800ish with optional archmagi item)

    3) utility
    a) intim-can hit mid 50s initm; normal standing intim at 51
    b) can open all meaningful locks in the game
    c) can search and disable all meaningful traps (search and disable in the mid-40s without any clickies or superbuffs)
    d) can stealth (self-buffed hide and move silently in the 40s to 50s)
    e) fast (ranger sprint boost) and jumpy (high jump and can cast jump)
    f) can stat damage like crazy with fast swing or bow speed
    g) 100% on raise scrolls

Here's the current stats, skills, feats, enhancments, and gear

    Ranger 18/Rogue 1/Monk 1

    STR 34 (15 + +1 human + 5 level ups + 4 tome + 7 item +2 exceptional)
    DEX 27 (15 + 3 enhancements + 3 tome)
    CON 22 (14 + 1 tome + 6 item + 1 human)
    INT 14/20 (12 + 2 tome; swap in +6 item)
    WIS 26 (14 + 2 tome +7 item +2 exceptional on weapon; +1 exceptional on item)
    CHR 10/16 (8 + 2 tome + 6 item)

    Skills

    Balance 40+ (11 ranks)
    Disable 40+ (13 ranks)
    Hide 40+ (18 ranks)
    Intim 50+ (23 ranks)
    Jump 50+ (5 ranks)
    Move Silently 40+ (20 ranks)
    Open Lock 35+ (5 ranks)
    Search 40+ (23 ranks)
    Spot 35+ (0 ranks)
    UMD 35-44 (23 ranks)

    Feats

    Combat Expertise
    Dodge
    Exotic Weapon Proficiency Kopesh
Favored Enemy (evil outsider, elemental, undead, giant)
    TWF/ITWF/GTWF
    Improved Crit slashing
    Mobility
    Power Attack
    Spring Attack
    Toughness
    Two weapon defense

    Cool

I would have to say: King of Cheeses' lay out should have great synergy with your FVS. A very effective character for sure.

I realy do like the build that King has posted. However, it looks like it is verry gear and tome dependent. So my question is, how well would this toon work with out all the gear and tomes listed?

It still works very well--at all levels--without gear and tomes. You won't have the high AC at lower levels or a useful UMD--but everything else holds up very well.

Thanks King. My husband has had a chance to look at the build. He wants to give it a try, knowing that it will still hold up well, while we see about getting the gear and tomes.
