Default halfling or Horc for 34 Rog?

Hey all, I read this forum alot and I am still having trouble coming to a conclusion of what race to TR into for my next full rog build.

I have a +3 str tome ready to use and +2 in all the rest of the stats.

I know that halflings get all the guile enhancements, +1 to hit due to size.

Horcs get the str enhancements and the +2 to str in creation.

Right now I run some epics but am still having trouble hitting consistently with my str based drow 20 rog.

Normally I wield my rad2 rapier and Lit2 rapier. I have other weapons for specialty fights.

I plan on TR'ing when I get my tharne's goggles from my 20th VoD run(**** goggles never drop) I do have the epic spyglass in the meantime.

I have exc str +1 on my dragontouched atm, but will switch that out once I can finally get into some ToD runs and get the rings. I may just do that after I TR though.

    So what are you thoughts?

For halfing I was thinking of going

    16
    16
    16
    8
    8
    8

    For horc

    20
    15
    14
    10
    8
    6

I am not sure how to place my stats on the Horc. I don't really want my cha that low due to UMD Would I be better going 18 str and bumping up cha to 8 and con to 16?

Any help would be great. Thank you.

If you want to go HOrc, I'd run some more raid completions for a +3 Dex tome and a starting Dex of 14.

I assume that your weapons will still be Rapiers + the past life feat?

HOrc DPS is better than the Halfling one's. The former is less peaky, resulting in a higher difficulty to steal aggro from you if you have it, but allowing better damage against undead and elementals.

I picked Halfling because I don't own HOrcs, and Halflings were reasonably close, dps-wise. I'd rather have some versatility (see below for that).
I got a +3 Int tome and a +3 Con tome, which allowed me to start with

    16 Str
    16 Dex
    15 Con
    11 Int
    8 Wis
    9 Cha

But this is pretty much tailored to fit with my tome situation before TRing. If it helped you, also 15 Dex are fine, of course.

I like versatility and I'd rather have a easily achievable UMD 39 than a small DPS increase.
Mind you, depending on how good you are equipped already and how many item slots (or swappables) you want to dedicate to UMD, this is of course possible on a HOrc, too. This is not a Halfling-yay, Horc-nay issue, but just a question how much effort you spend on that.

for UMD, I have head of good fortune, epic spyglass, golden cartouche, and a regular bigtop.

I agree that I could wait for a +3 dex/con tome but I could also TR now, and just LR when I get one of those tomes in my second life... I know many of you say that time is better spent just staying 20 and farming for gear, but I don't mind leveling up, and I think it would make a big difference since I am drow right now.

If you were TR'ing into a horc and had a +3 str tome, what stats would you use?

The above is a 32-pointer. You said it would be a 34-pointer. In which case, do the above with a 10 INT.

I'm actually debating this exact thing now that I'm ready to TR my halfling STR rogue - well almost, need to get my TR ranger back to 20 first. I've learned... only one TR at a time.

    I believe I will go:

    Half-orc

    20 STR + 5 levels + 2 ho + 6 item + 3 exp +2 ship + 4 tome= 42 STR
    14 DEX + 3 tome + 6 item + 2 ship +3 rogue = 28 DEX
    16 CON + 6 item + 3 exp + 3 tome + 2 ship = 30 CON
    6 INT + 6 item + 2 tome +2 ship = 16 INT
    8 WIS + 6 item + 2 tome + 2 ship = 18 WIS
    6 CHA + 6 item + 2 tome + 2 ship = 16 CHA

This gives me a final UMD of:

    23 ranks
    +3 CHA
    +2 Luck
    +4 GH
    +3 Enhancements
    +3 competence
    +1 ship
    ----
    39
    +4 skill boost
    ----
    43

At 6 skill points per level until later, that gives me scant options...

    Disable - 23
    Search - 23
    Spot - 23
    UMD - 23
    Bluff - 23

    Also,
    Jump 10
    Open Lock 10
    Tumble 1

Still, I feel the sacrifice is worth it for the overall dps. We'll see... LR is always an option.
