Please read the whole thing first: I have Ranged toons and love playing them and i recognized they have many flaws and not much love but i think thier rate of fire is fine and that the DPS issue should not be fixed by a faster rate of fire but instead make a ranged character work like one.
I know we are in a magic realm but to think that a person could pull, load, draw, and aim an arrow in the same time as a fighter can swing one swing to equalize DPS even in a MMO world is a bit ridiculus.
The strength of a ranged toon is that an arrow is fast and small making it very diifcult to see or defend against especially from a far distance so my idea to help fix ranged and make it play like it should is similar to the helpless change.
If when firing at or into a mob and you do not have agro the mob should get a yet to be determined negative to AC something akin to a flanking bonus. Because really if they are not paying attention to you(agroed) how do they defend against a missle (maybe just remove dex bonus) and a arrow should get +50% bonus damage (Physical damage only). now once a mob has agroed you would lose both the negative to thier AC and your bonus damage because they are now looking and aware of future shots.
So the basic breakdown is.....
1. keep rate of fire the same (obvously an issue for devs and not likely to change anyways)
2. Give a bonus to hit or reduction in AC to a mob not Agroed on you because really how can they defend themselves. Not an auto hit by any means because you still have to aim and they are still wearing armor to penetrate.
3. Add +50% physical damage ONLY!!!! to an arrow while not agroed.
These things have the potential to greatly increase the DPS of a party oriented ranged toon that can do agro management while at the same time compensating for all those that cry about a ranged toon being immune to damage from being at a safe distance as these would not apply past the first shot for solo toons or for the party member who isnt careful about the agro he/she generates.
