    Default The TrapHammer - please critique

    I am pretty new to DDO (just a couple of weeks), but I am loving the game and love monks. After seeing that a lot of groups need rogues for traps, and seeing that Finger of Death is an awesome Monk enhancement, I tried building a toon that would have some usefulness to a group throughout its career and be able to dish out some damage.

    I did not add any tomes. I also stayed away from short swords because after reading a lot of posts, it seems people generally agree fists are better.

    As I've already stated, I am quite new to the game. I have never played any kind of rogue, and therefore do not know how useful some of their feats and enhancements are. Pleas feel free to let me know what this char is missing out on. Also, I realize the char is missing out on some great rogue feats, but I traded them for FoD and Ninja Spy 2. I just thought it was a worthy trade.

    Thank you in advance for any guidance. I am looking forward to hearing from at least a few of the awesome builders that are here.

    Either the build meets its goals and therefore requires no comments, or it is so FUBAR that no one wants to spend any time turning it into something remotely workable.

    I hope it is the former :-P

    "Finger of Death" is an arcane spell; you're thinking of "Touch of Death." The other ninjas will laugh at you if you get it wrong again.

    Initial thought - not bad but some issues:

    • Usual caveat about Finesse builds: you're giving up DPS and a feat for AC, Reflex, and to-hit (at least initially). Most will tell you to go STR-based instead. I have a soft spot for Finesse builds, but that doesn't change the fact it tends to be the gimpy / flavor route.
    • STR too low to take Power Attack; every melee should have PA. Fortunately, if you take a STR tome you can add it. Trade WF Blunt for PA.
    • CON's lower than I would like; I'd drop some WIS and/or INT for CON 14. Doesn't pay to gimp your DPS and your HPs. Plus base CON 14 + 2 tome will let you add Master Earth Stance, which boosts your crit multiplier by 1.
    • I don't see a rogue PrE; I would probably add Assassin for an extra +1D6 SA.
    • EDIT: rather than rogue 8, I might consider, say, a fighter splash for an extra feat and some HPs.

    Oops! TOUCH OF DEATH! Thanks for exposing the extreme newbie full-frontal idiocy! :-P And the rest of the input. I look forward to working on this build more and bringing it out in a few months.

    PS Thanks also for having links to your builds. I've been searching for a good battle cleric build, and it seems you've got some great ones.
