    Default Mass Email

Could the developers please investigate adding a mass email option for guilds?

I think the ability for a guild leader and successor to send a message to everyone in the guild though a mass email would be a great improvement in communication with our members. We have to rely on the daily message currently and while it's helpful it is limited in the amount of information it can relay. If we have something else we'd like to tell our members about (what time the guild quests will begin, for example) then we have to decide what info in the daily message gets lost and what stays. It's just inefficient in my opinion.

I'm not suggesting that the Daily Message gets axed, only that another line of communication could be added.

    What do you all think?

Hmmph! Am I the only one besides my guild leader that thinks this is a good idea?

Oh, well. Everyone floats a lead zeppelin now and again.

I just bug my guildies on irc. :P

But yeah, there should be a send to guild button in the mailbox. For everyone.

Not a bad idea, but I think it didn't get much wind in it's sails cuz most organized/active guilds have guild pages set up for scheduling events & such.

    fwiw, I'll toss ya a "/signed."

...I'll be honest, tho. I came in to toss a "Oh, Heck no!" pic in here, thinking (by thread title alone) that you wanted mass mail capability in general. Heh!

Sorry, i dont need the same message 20+ Times from anyone in my guild.. Just would be spam.

If people dont want to bother signing up for a free website, I doubt they would care about your mass spam emails in game either.

Why not use the Message of the day? everyone sees that when they login. We use it all the time to send out guild messages

I was also thinking they could have a forward button.

Sold a couple of tomes on one toon and realized the plat would be better served on another toon. If a forward existed, I wouldn't need to detach on said toon, but could forward to the toon I wanted it for.

Of course, plat storage in bank would eliminate that need.

I'd be happy to just get a REPLY button for the email system.

mass mailing in the past lead to plat farmers spamming the bjeezus out of us and personally i havent seen one of those mailings in a long time.

p.s. dont bother replying with your opinon of why spammers are no longer around.i already know why and really dont care about someones elses opinion on the subject.

Please no. When I got the mass mail from update 9 about saltire, I had to go through all my alts deleting it, as I didn't know if they had real mail or not.

My guild does mass mailing through their own website, to players not toons.

So, make the mass mail only hit the first character to open the mailbox on a single account?

I'd be okay if it were a guild option for hitting a certain level, like guild-invites. And, if it only sent to characters on the guild's roster, and was not available to send to non-guilded folks.

But, overall - I think a Bulletin Board amenity to place on the ships would be a better option, instead of mass-mailing. Give more space then the MotD allows, but would not mess with the mail system. I think it'd be simpler to implement, and not mess with the mail system (I'd hate to see em break the mail, even for a little while).

Sounds great, write up the code now

One thing I've wanted for a long time, but it's too frivolous for me to mention, is that I would love to have a tool that could tell me how many people are online from my guild. MyDDO kind of dones this, but we all know the issues with MyDDO ATM.

We played around with having a command line twitter updater that updated a twitter account when people started the client. (Batch file that at the end executed the client), but we abandoned it as it only tracked accounts, not toons and if you didn't exit the game properly (crash) it wouldn't work right.

To the original point, it would be cool if (say through a airship amenity) you could put in your real email account to get in game broadcasts from your guild.

    * Toon walks up to Airship conch amenity
    * toon writes message: Hey all, Guild Shroud in 15 mins
<message is sent to player's email accounts if they have set it up>

My guild would use this. We do it now through our own website, but this would be smoother.

But as long as I'm dreaming, I would like a pony too. (Their meat tastes great )

    No.

I really don't want people in-game able to send messages to my real(ish) email address. Besides - it wouldn't be useful; most people sign up for things with junk addresses they never check anyway.

In-game mail? Sure, why not. IRL email? Absolutely not.

I do think he means in-game mail, the Mailboxes.

Having specific commands in the mail wouldn't be too terrible an idea, really. There's messages that are too long to fit into the daily message.

Currently we have "Mail to: Player". I would support having "Mail to: /guild", or something like that.

Or have an editable "Bulletin Board" on the airship, where a long message can be written. And a notice in the guild channel that the bulletin board was edited.

Actually I did mean my real email address, as I said this is a nice to have, works for me, and is a frivolity.

I could easily see why some people wouldn't want it. But for me, I really like my guild and know everyone who is in it. I would like an email or text message when people are about to do an SOS, or Shroud or other thing.

We already have a means to do this however and we use it. Of the 45 people in our guild, 20 of us are on a text message broadcast system driven by our website, works great, it's opt in only, and no reply necessary. It would be nice to have an in game version "the Conch", but there are so many better ways for the devs to spend their time.

This has been brought up before, and will be brought up again.

    /not signed

    ever.

    1) It's too easy to abuse
    2) I don't want to have to log into all my characters to delete mail that I probably don't care about
    3) We have a MOTD to get a message out to the guild, no need to duplicate what already works

If you have a problem with a spammer, kick him out of guild. There is no other problem. And how is a one-liner a duplicate of a proper mail system.

Edit: Not to mention only officers can use the MOTD feature.
