    The Complete Guide to Not Casting Spells (Clickies, Potions, Scrolls and Wands)

    This Guide is a work in process. It will get completed as I have time to do so.


    Chances are, you want to cast spells. Even if you don’t have a blue bar, or have an extremely limited one, some magical effects are really, really useful, right? Here I am going to create an incredible laundry list of clickies and consumables: Where they are, what they do, minimum levels, etcetera. A character with the right clickies and stacks of potions can completely carry a difficult quest; making a huge difference in how much damage they take and do.


    The general format will be:

    Spell name, W (Signify if it can be found on wands, also W5 and W10 if you can find 5th or 10th level wands of it), S (signify if it can be found on scrolls, with a S~V meaning said scroll can not be vendor purchased), P (Potions, including things like P20 for Resistence potions) and then some commentary about the clicky, if it is unique or uniquely useful. I’ll start with the Wizard/Sorcerer list, then go through the Bard list, then cleric, then paladin, then ranger Deleting duplicates of spells; so if you don’t see some spell in the paladin list, check the cleric list! These lists will not be divided by subschool. Lots of data has been mined from both the DDO Wiki, and the Definitive Static Loots thread. Thank you to everyone who helps in developing both those wonderful resources.


    Note: I could not find a list of spells that could be randomly generated on items, so some of this is guess work. If you have corrections to make, please post them! If an item can not generate this spell, please let me know! The line “I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies” really means “I am mostly certain...” and thus, am likely wrong.

    If there is a unique loot with a clicky (or worn effect of a clicky) that I missed, please point it out to me

    Some of my math for what min level clickies can appear at might be bad. If anyone could correct it, please do.

    I only go to a certain level, the level at which it is “reasonable” to proceed — my estimate is that this level 4, with certain special notices for higher level spells, instead of a complete work through of the list. After a certain spell level, clickies really only appear on named items; and they will be mentioned.

    There will be a section for unique clickies at the end.

    There might be some editing errors, for which I apologize.




    Without further ado;

    Wizard and Sorcerer Spells

    Level 1 — UMD DC for scrolls and wands: 20 (higher for things with higher CL, obviously)
    Clickies with these effects will appear on unmodified +1 armors with a min level of: 0 (1 charge), 2 (3 charges), 4 (5 charges).
    Clickies with these effects will appear on unmodified accessories with a min level of: 0 (1 charge), 0 (3 charges), 3 (5 charges)
    Some named items will have these as effects with lower or higher minimum levels.

    Protection from Evil:W10:[S]:P: +2 Deflection bonus to AC, +2 resistance bonus to saves from Evil creatures. Note last I heard this stacks with other Deflection bonuses, contrary to what one would assume. Fragment of the Silver flame has a worn effect of protection from evil.     Nightforge Darkhelm - (Helmet) Protection from Evil (CL:1, 3/rest)

    Shield:W10:S: A +4 Shield bonus to armor class and blocks magic missiles. A wonderful clicky to have, except for the duration, for a lot of non-shield wearers. Wands up to 5th and 10th level can be found on the auction house usually, if you’re willing to pay for the convenience. On the named Mystic Belt, but still only 2 charges at CL 1. Protective Gloves also have 1 charge of CL 1 shield. Goggles of Shielding have 2 charges of a CL 1 shield per rest.
    CL on the giantcrafted is still CL 1.

    Nightshield:S: Provides a +1 per 3/levels resistence bonus to saves and blocks out Magic Missiles. This is useful at low levels to block out magic missiles.

    Emerald Guard - (Armor) +5 Full Plate (MDB:2), Nightshield (CL:14, 1/rest),

    Grease:S: Forces an area to make a reflex save or fall. This clicky is more amusing than useful.

    Mage Armor:W5:S:P: +4 armor bonus, +1 min/CL. Good at low levels if you’re unable or unwilling to wear heavier armor, but swiftly replaced by Waterworks Black Widow Bracers. Disciple's Robe - (Robe) Mage Armor (CL:1, 1/rest),

    Niac’s Cold Ray:W5:S: Does 1d10 per CL, reflex save negates. The 5th level version could be some acceptable back up damage on a wand. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Obscuring Mist:S: Mostly obnoxious fog.

    Summon Monster 1:S: Summons a celestial dog for 10 minutes. Useful for distracting low level opponents. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Detect Secret Doors:W10:S: ...does what it says it does. Quite useful for getting extra exp/loot in some quests.

    Master’s Touch: S~V: This makes you proficient with simple and martial weapons. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Charm Person:W:S: Charms a humanoid. Crowd control. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Eyes of Charming - (Goggles) Charm Person (CL:1, 3/rest)

    Hypnotism:S: Causes enemies to stop attacking until they are damaged. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Sleep:W:S: Causes enemies to sleep. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Vial of Slumberdust - (Trinket) Sleep (CL:1, 3/rest)

    Burning Hands:W5:S: Deals 1d4 fire damage per CL, max 5d4, ref half. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”. Flamedagger has Burning Hands (3/rest)
    Ring of Dragon's Breath - (Ring) Burning Hands (CL:1, 3/rest)

    Acid Spray:S~V: Burning hands, except acid. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Magic Missile:W9:S: Deals 1d4+1 damage, +1d4+1 per CL, max 5d4+5 at level 9. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Eternal Wand of Magic Missile - (Misc) Exclusive, Magic Missile (CL:1, 50/rest)

    Shocking Grasp:W5:S: Deals 1d6 electricity damage per CL. I am uncertain if this can be generated on randomly generated clickies.

    Sonic Blast:S~V: Deals 1d4 sonic damage/2CL, max 5d4. Will save or dazed for a short period of time, daze is broken with damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Cause Fear:S Enemy is shaken or flees. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”. Death's Locket - (Necklace) Cause Fear (CL:1, 3/rest)
    Emerald Claw Amulet - Cause Fear (CL:1, 3/rest)

    Chill Touch:W5:S: Deals 1d6 damage per CL, max 5d6. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Ray of Enfeeblement:S: Deals 1d6+1, +1 per 2 CL strength damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Expeditious Retreat:W10:S: 25% increase to run speed, doesn’t stack with striders.
    Expeditious Boots — Expeditious Retreat (CL:1, 1/rest)
    Anger's Step — Expeditious Retreat {CL:1, 2/rest}

    Feather Fall:S: Fall slowly and don’t take falling damage.
    Feather Cloak - (Cloak) Feather Fall (CL:1, 1/rest)
    Many randomly generated items provide this as a “worn” effect.

    Jump:S:P: Enhancement to jump skill. Extremely valuable.
    Morah's Belt has 3 charges of a CL 15 clicky
    Epic Dustless Boots , Jump {CL:20, 3/3 rest}

    Merfolk’s Blessing:S: +10 + 1/2CL bonus to swim skill. I am uncertain if this can be generated on randomly generated clickies.

    Repair Light Damage:S:P: Heals constructs 1d8+1/cl. Useful to keep a stack of cheap potions around at lower levels. At higher levels, won’t heal much. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Tumble:S:P: +10 Enhancement bonus to Tumble Skill.



    Level 2 — UMD DC for scrolls and wands: 24 (higher for things with higher CL, obviously)
    Clickies with these effects will appear on unmodified +1 armors with a min level of: 2 (1 charge), 4 (3 charges), 6 (5 charges).
    Clickies with these effects will appear on unmodified accessories with a min level of: 0 (1 charge), 3 (3 charges), 5 (5 charges)
    Some named items will have these as effects with lower or higher minimum levels.

    Resist Energy:W11:S:P30: By type, resists energy in various amounts. Highly useful.
    Deezil's Ornament - (Trinket) Resist Energy: Fire (CL:3, 1/rest)

    Fog Cloud:S: Creates a cloud of smoke, like obscuring mist.

    Glitterdust:S: Blinds and shows invisible creatures.

    Melf’s Acid Arrow:W:S 2d4 damage + 2d4 damage per 2 seconds per 3 CL. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Signet of Caustic Persuasion - (Ring) Melf's Acid Arrow (CL:3, 3/rest),
    Melt Wood Staff - (Weapon) +1 Quarterstaff, Melf's Acid Arrow (CL:3, 3/rest)

    Summon Monster 2:S: Summons a fiendish scorpion. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Web:W:S: Sticks creatures, forcing them to make reflex saves to move through.
    Misery's Web - (Trinket) Web (CL:3, 1/rest)

    See Invisibility:S: Lets you see invisible creatures/objects.

    Daze monster:W:S:P: Causes a monster to not take actions for 6 seconds. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Touch of Idiocy:S: Deals 1d6 poitns of int/wis/cha damage

    Otto’s Resistible Dance:S: Forces an enemy to dance. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Electric Loop:S~V: Deals 1d6 damage per 2 levels max 5d6 and chance to daze multiple targets. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Flaming Sphere:S: Deals 2d6 fire damage, ref negates. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Scorching Ray:W11:S: Deals 4d6 damage, 1 more 4d6 ray at 7 and 11. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Snowball Swarm:S: Deals 1d6 cold per 2 levels, max 5d6, to nearby enemies, ref half. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Blur:W10:S: Gives a 20% miss chance. Totally awesome in every way

    Hypnotic Pattern:S: Fascinates an area. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Invisibility:W:S: Invisible for 1 min/level, or until using object/attacking. Nyoko's Necklace has 3 charges at CL 15.
    Cloak of Invisibility - (Cloak) Invisibility (CL:3, 1/rest)
    Cloak of the Zephyr - (Cloak) Blurry, Invisibility (1/rest)

    False Life:W:S:P: False Life: Gives 10 +1 temp HP per CL (max 20)

    Ghoul Touch:W:S: Allows you to paralyse. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Lesser Death Aura:S~V: Enemies take 1d4 damage while in aura. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Spawn Screen:S: Does nothing. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Scare:S: Fears multiple targets of less than 6 HD. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Scales of the Ancestors - (Armor) +1 Scale Mail, Scare (CL:3, 3/rest)

    Bear’s Endurance:W6:S:P: +4 to Con

    Bull’s Strength:W6:S:P: +4 to Str

    Cat’s Grace:W6:S:P: +4 to Dex

    Eagle’s Splendor:W6:S:P: +4 to Cha

    Fox’s Cunning:W6:S:P: +4 to Int

    Owl’s Wisdom:W6:S:P: +4 to Wis

    Knock:W10:S: Unlocks doors as if rogue, pick lock CL+Key ability modifier. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Ooze Puppet:W:S: Charm person for ooze. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Repair Moderate Wounds:W:S:P: Heals 2d8+1/lvl, max 2d8+10 to constructs. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Brass Beaver - (Ring) Repair Moderate Damage (CL:3, 3/rest),

    Level 3

    Dispel Magic:W10 or 15:S: Removes magic effects with caster level check versus spell level check. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Magic Circle against Evil:W:S: Protection from Evil in a circle. Can use potions of protection from evil to simulate.

    Protection from Energy:W10:S:P: Protects from the next 10*CL of energy damage. Totally and absolutely awesome.

    Sleet Storm:S: Creates a patch of sleet, slippery movement, chance to fall like grease, miss chance like fog cloud. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Stinking Cloud:S Like fog cloud, except nauseates.

    Summon Monster III:S: Like 2, except Hell Hound. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Totemic Staff of Splinterskull - (Weapon) +1 Quarterstaff, Summon Monster III (CL:5, 3/rest)
    Penny Whistle - (Trinket) Summon Monster III (CL:5, 5/rest)

    Deep Slumber:S: A “better” version of sleep. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”. Dream Cloak - (Cloak) Deep Slumber (CL:5, 3/rest)

    Heroism:S:P: +2 attacks, saves, skills, for 5 minutes
    Kundarak Trooper's Shield - (Shield) +2 Tower Shield, Heroism (3/rest)
    Nightforge Armbands - (Bracers) Improved False Life, Heroism (CL: 3/rest)

    Hold Person:S: Freezes a humanoid, rendering them auto-critable. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Goggles of Grabbing - (Goggles) Hold Person (CL:3, 1/rest)

    Rage:S:P: +2 str and con, +1 will saves, -2 AC. Barbarian's Spirit has 1 charge of CL5 rage per rest. The Bloodrage Symbiont has 3 charges of CL 5 rage per rest. Ring of Rage has 1 CL5 charge of rage per rest. Armor of Amok has CL 5 rage 3 per rest.
    Blood Machete — Rage (CL:5, 1/rest)

    Suggestion:W:S: Control an enemy for a short while. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Crystal Prism - (Trinket) Suggestion (3/rest)

    Acid Blast:S~V: 1d6/level, max 10d6, acid damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Chain Missiles:S~V: 1d4+1 force damage, +1 missile per 2 CL, max 10 at level 20. Has some splash damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Fireball:W10:S: A classic. 1d6 per CL, max 10d6, fire damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Necklace of Fireballs - (Necklace) Fireball (CL:5, 5 charges)

    Frost Lance:S~V: Ice version of scorching ray, except each ray deals 4d10 cold damage (fortitude half). I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Lightning Bolt:W10:S: 1d6/level, max 10d6, lightning damage in a line. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”. Helm of the Blue Dragon has 1 charge of CL 6 lightning bolt.

    Displacement:S: 50% miss chance. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Elocator's Habiliment — Displacement (CL:5, 5/2 rest)

    Halt Undead:S: Stops as many as 3 undead. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Ray of Exhaustion:S:Fatigues character on save, exhausts them on fail. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Flame Arrow:W:S: Creates 50 arrows with +1d6 fire damage.

    Haste:S:P: The king of kings. +40% movement, +15% attack speed, +1 to attack and +1 dodge to AC/Reflex saves. This excellent effect people should definitely have potions or clickies of.
    Boots of Speed - (Boots) Haste (CL:5, 2/rest)
    Mithral Full Plate of Speed - (Armor) +1 Full Plate, Mithral, Haste (CL:5, 2/rest)

    Repair Serious Damage:W:S:P: Repairs 3d8+1/level max +15 to constructs.

    Slow:W:S: Opposite of haste, will negates.
    Ring of Time - (Ring) Slow (CL:5, 1/rest)

    Water Breathing:W:S:P: Lets you breath in the water. The Grotto newbie quest gives a ring with a single charge of this to all new characters, Aptly named the Ring of Water Breathing (CL 5)
    Bubble Belt - (Belt) Water Breathing (CL:5, 3/rest),
    Corsair's Cap - (Helmet) Water Breathing (CL:7, 3/3),

    Level 4:

    Remove curse:S:P: Removes curse.

    Stoneskin:W:S: Provides DR 10/adamantine, absorbs 10 damage per CL (max 150) I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Seal of the Earth - (Ring) Stoneskin (CL:12, 3/rest),
    Epic Seal of the Earth - (Ring) Stoneskin {CL:20, 3/3 rest}

    Fire Trap:S: Creates a fire trap. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Acid Rain:S: Acid rain deals 3d4 damage per 2 seconds. Lasts 6 seconds +2 seconds at 9/12/15/18. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Dimension Door:S~V: Door to entrance of the instance. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Solid Fog:S~V: Creates a fog that slows movement and reduces attack. This is a classic way for tanks to gain agro, particularly in the hound raid.

    Summon Monster IV:S: Fiendish Large Monstrous Spider. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Bracers of Spiderkind - (Bracers) Poison Save +2, Summon Monster IV (3/rest)

    Charm Monster:W:S: Charm a monster to fight. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”.
    Eternal Wand of Charm Monster - (Misc) Charm Monster (CL:1, 2/rest)

    Crushing Despair:S: -2 to attacks, saving throws, ability checks, skill checks and weapon damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Fire Shield:S: Deals damage to melee attackers, protects from Web. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”. The Cloak of Ice provides 3 charges of a CL 7 Fireshield (cold Version). The Bluefire Necklace provides 3 charges of a CL 7 Fireshield (Fire Version). Bracers of the Glacier also proc these at a 10% rate on being hit. The Epic Helm of the Red Dragon also has 1 charge of a CL 20 Fire Shield (Fire Version)

    Ice Storm:W:S: Deals 3d6 bludgeoning and 2d6 cold damage, halves move speed. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Shout:S: Deals 5d6 sonic damage. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Sign of Xoriat - (Necklace) Shout (CL:7, 3/rest)

    Wall of Fire:S~V: Creates a wall of flame, dealing fire damage, etcetera, etcetera. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Force Missiles:W9 or 13:S: More powerful version of magic missiles. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Symbol of Flame:S~V: A rune, when enemy comes across, deals 5d6 damage, reflex half. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Phantasmal Killer:W:S: Kills enemy, will negates, fortitude negates, though target still takes 3d6 damage if it fails will save. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    # Terror --- Phantasm Killer (CL:18, 3/rest)

    Bestow Curse:S: -4 to attack, saves, and skills. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies” This can be found on Ring of Baphomet (CL 5, 3 charges/rest)

    Burning Blood:i]S[/I]: Deals 1d8 points of acid damage, 1d8 points of fire damage, over time. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Contagion:S: Hits enemy with a stat draining disease. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Death Aura:S~V: Living creature take 1d4+1 per CL damage while in aura, undead are healed. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Enervation:S: Enemy takes 1d4 negative levels. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Fear:W:S: Enemies flee for 1 round/level, or become shaken for 1 round on successful will save. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”
    Headman's Hood - (Helmet) Fear (CL:7, 1/rest)
    Undying Gaze - (Helmet) Fear (CL:7, 1/rest), Intimidate +10, Shatter +6

    Negative Energy Burst:S~V: Deals 1d8 per CL, max 5d8 damage to all living enemies in area, fort half, undead are healed. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Repair Critical Damage:W:S: Heals 4d8+1/cl (max 20) to constructs. I do not believe this effect is found on randomly generated “clickies”

    Level 5:
    UMD DC for scrolls: 36

    Break Enchantment:S:
    Dismissal:S: Ring of Balance - (Ring) Dismissal (CL:7, 3/rest),
    Teleport:S: Found 1/rest on the Royal Guard Mask

    Level 6:
    UMD DC for scrolls and 40

    True Seeing:S: Found 1/rest on the Stave of the Seer (CL9)
    Greater Heroism:S: Can be found on the Planar Gird (CL 11) and the Draconic Necklace, (CL 11)

    Level 7:
    UMD DC for scrolls and 40

    I have seen and had shocking grasp and charm person clickie therfore I think there probably are suggestion clickies and such./
    If beauty is in the eye of the beholder which eye is that?
    I demand you nerf this post. I was the first person to enter the chronoscope quest on cannith. And died in 10 mins when the whole party finally got in. Profesional Necrobumper.

    i have found a ring of charming and a ring of hyonotism.
    i also found an armor of burning hands, 3 charges for all of them
    Note: the armor is useless because of the time it takes to change (it's on a +1 half plate, and im a fighter with a +4 full plate.)
