When I go to the store and tell the clerk, "Oh, just put my purchase in this bag I brought with me," the clerk does so. Sure, they could put it into a different bag. And it's not that one bag is objectively better or worse than the other. It's just that mine is the bag I'm already using.

While I'm all for opening in the default browser, I do have to point out that the vast majority of people use IE and I've had significantly more issues with Firefox than IE in the time I've spent using the Internet.

The reason for IE being used in DDO (and numerous other applications) when links are clicked is developer laziness - they use default routines in predefined libraries that call IE. As Balmer said long ago: "Developers, developers, developers, developers, developers, developers..."

EDIT: I'll see that out of context limited-scope anecdote and raise you my own: I've been exclusively a Linux user since late 93-94, with Mozilla products - thus I have had fewer problems with Firefox (and Netscape prior) than I have with IE.

Unfortunately yes.

I remove IE from my moms PC last year, after she found out it was removed it was like soloing Velah on epic after she found out you took her loot. Had to reinstall IE or buy her a new PC.

remove IE -> Install Chrome
and mom will never know that something changed
done that with mine, she is happily surfing and not noticing it

I know it's necro'd and all, but really guys... this is why people leave the game. Threads been sitting here for 2 years, unanswered, uncared for and completely neglected. It's a simple change that would vastly improve player experience with absolutely no down sides and an insanely small amount of time investment by devs. They could probably get an intern to do it for them for free. But do they? No. Why? Cause they can't sell the option in the store for TP. I repeat: This is why people leave the game.

Really? People would leave the game over this???

I'd love to see the launcher open my default browser, but I've found that I can just as easily rt-click-copyshortcut, pasteNgo to chrome, done. Certainly not a gamebreaker.
