    Default Blade Barrier stacking stealth-nerf

Edit: This was a fix to an unintended method rather than a nerf.

I didn't see this in the release notes, so I thought I'd share.

Pre-u9, if you cast a blade barrier, then jumped and cast another blade barrier above it without overlapping, mobs would take two ticks of damage each time they passed through the barriers.

Post-u9, they appear to still take one tick of damage when blades are stacked:

At first I thought it might be a fluke with the zombies since they are so short, but they still take damage from a single barrier that is high in the air:

I noticed in my combat log that I gave an Air Elemental some kind of buff against Blade Barrier, right before (or after) it dealt damage to it.

Nevertheless, the barrier(s) still ripped them all apart just as well as as before (if not better), so I didn't pay any more attention to it.

It would be nice to know the new mechanic details, though.

I just wish they would fix blade barrier so that mobs that run up and stand on the blade will take constant tics of damage like they do with firewall. It is really irritating when a mob runs up to the blade and decides to stop and smell the flowers. Especially with the extend nerf.

Considering that Turbine has said for a long time now that Blade Barriers should not stack, I would classify this as a bugfix.

    lol

making things work = nerf huh?

I would really like to see this work as an actively damaging spell, similar to wall of fire; ESPECIALLY since taking away extend to BBs really REALLY hurt healers.

It is strange that, if BBs are considered dot spells, they did not get changed to non-weighted dice as the release notes stated.

Most definitely not a nerf. It was never supposed to stack.

hate to spoil your fun...or the fun you used to have...but you did not have to 'jump' up in the air to do that..lol

they take one tick going in, all ticks going out...

looks like it may be fixed...

If you jumped in the air you could get two ticks going in, all ticks going out... could even get three to stack completely if you modified your jump score or had good timing.

Right, and that makes the OP's post a documentation of either a cheesy practice or an exploit, depending how you see it.

Not sure I like that idea when running Epic Demon Queen.

Not in the blades, ON the blades. When they stand there with the blades spinning through their body they should take tics of damage. If I had a giant blade spinning through my body I would expect to take steady damage just like I would expect to take steady damage if I stood in a wall of fire.

As for the stacking/overlapping issues with Blade Barrier and Wall of Fire, they were changed with the release of Module 7 on June 3, 2008.

So now, can we stop calling it a "nerf" when they have to re-fix them?

Rather than worrying about whether or not we can still exploit this spell, we should be worrying about whether or not the devs are going to address this:

^^That^^ is a change that should be implemented, if at all possible.

    Not a problem.

Just step all the way to the center. You should not take damage in the center. Just if you are dumb enough to stand right on the blade ring.
