Recommend Software: Recording Game as Video (but not FRAPS)

Hiyas all there.
I am wanting to record some dungeon runs. I have FRAPS but the codec it uses is really bad. I have used Camtasia and there codec is really good, but that is for capturing Windows applications.
I am looking for something similar to FRAPS but with a proper codec.
I am getting heaps of errors when I take the FRAPS .AVI's into every video converter that I have.

Are you sure FRAPS is the problem here?

I use FRAPS. Have edited videos using Windows Media Player (boo), and Vdubmod.

As you can see from an example, I am able to record, edit, and then publish FRAPS-recorded DDO video to Youtube at high resolution (1920x1200), and it comes across rather well, to my untrained eyes.

I'm pretty sure that Shade also use Fraps, and anyone else here that actually records DDO video.
