black screen/visible ui problems (windows 7)

so i just got a new laptop with windows seven on it. i downloaded ddo and it works fine until it reaches the character selection page. the entire background is black except for the ui. this game has worked fine on my extremely old windows xp computer, so why the change on a newer windows 7 computer?????

Open the launcher, hit the little triangle button in the upper right, select options, click the repair tab, have it reset the game display settings. Then make sure to refuse DX11 and DX10 - you must use DX9.

If that doesn't fix your problem, can you please post your DXDiag?
