Default Feasibility of a summoner build

Is it feasible/useful to try to make a summoner build with a wizard and going PM? Also how are the iron/steel (etc) companions? I have never used any of those before, I looked around and only found things that were six months or older

    Danke in advance

    Feasible? Yes.

    Useful? Not really.

There is nothing your summons can do that you cant do better. Damage dealing? Summons damage output is really bad. Providing distraction - charm/suggestion line is much better. And if you want to kite something in your fw/ice storm/whatever or cluster mobs to blast them with fireball, summons wil definately not make this easier, only harder.

Only reason to do such build is coolness factor - if you want a small army, go for it. You can always reroll/spec it out

it won't be a big help but you wont have to sacrifice all that mutch agmented summons is all you need it effects charmed monsters too in party play atleast the defenders suck **** grease

Feasible if you intend to solo.
Augment summons and buffing your pets will make them quite formidable in quests on normal or casual difficulty.

It's hard/elite, or certain endgame quests on norm, where they just don't scale well and get slaughtered.

Overall, I'd say don't bother. I, too, would love a "summoner" type build, but it just doesn't work well in DDO at present.

Summoner, Minion Master can be done in DDO, but is as useful as Wizard10/Sorcerer10 hybrid.

To make Minion Master good, you'd need:
    - small number or just one **** big summoned pet
    - or huge number of small ones

In DDO you can only summon 1 or 2 (maybe 3) small pets. To make it work, you'd need 10+ current pets (and you can't) or individual pets would have to be like that Warforged Titan from Weapon Shipment quest.

If you were dead-set on having the ultimate solo summoner, you could spend TP on gold hirelings (5), 1 PM summon, 1 summon monster, and possibly 5 more summons from hirelings if you bought the correct ones (some of them have their own summons, do not know if it is possible to get 5 different hirelings with summons at once) for a theoretical total of 12 full-time summons.

Terrible. Also they replace a regular summoned critter, IIRC, so pointless as well to a caster.

Is Augment Summoning transitive? I.e., if you have the feat and summon a hireling who then summons their own critter, does that critter also benefit from AS?

It's fairly easy to make a summoner-focused PM: just take Augment Summoning and the skeletal minion enhs. It's also fairly easy to respec out of a summoner focus once you realize how much they suck (at least at higher difficulties) by swapping AS for a more useful metamagic and dropping the minion enhs.

I don't know about a Summoner build, but a AM conjuror main/ enchantment minor and Augment Summon is very fun...I am in the process of building one now.

Don't underestimate the power of a few well placed buffs, a personal summoned pet, Augment Summon, and some charmed baddies......it is very very very effective.
