    Default Disintegrate - still needed?

With the new Spellpass and the few level 6 slots, Im starting to wonder - does a Sorc still need Disintegrate?

According to the Notes, Golems etc, now also all take elemental damage, albeit only some.

And the other mobs where disint is needed (Abbot/Wiz King) - wont Delayed Blast Fireball work there as well?

    What are your thoughts ?

On a failed save, disint is still the highest available single-target damaging spell, and is now affected by the force line for even more damage. So my casters will still carry it as a staple.

Big dog in HoX is also immune to all elemental damage, but that's why you bring along the melee.

Would need to test properly, but particularly if you're air specced, cyclonic blast (assuming you have a level 5 slot to spare for it) could be a contender as a replacement since it does untyped damage & will be boosted by your higher caster levels plus enhancements... it'll do less outright damage to mobs than a failed save vs. disintegrate but since damage is so low for disintegrate when an enemy does save it might even out overall, and has a handy knockdown effect too. Only problem is the aiming which takes a little to get the hang of if you're not as used to mouselook aiming a la improved precise shot... oh, and it'll blow out many AoEs too.

Cant say for certain though since i'm speaking from the viewpoint of an evocation specced archmage (love that SLA) rather than a sorcerer.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

not many sorcerers will have the amount of room in level 5 spells as they used to... the two primary spells for maintaining single target DPS on raid bosses are now in level 5.

and funnily enough, level 6 spells are getting a lot less competitive now. mass suggestion presumably has to beat spell pen, symbol of persuasion got a major nerf in cooldown and supposedly also no longer works in epics, and especially if you're an air savant, you'll have no need for flesh to stone since it won't work on anything important anyways.

i think we'll see lots of disintegrate from sorcerers this next patch, personally. most of the other stuff that people would have taken instead got a lot less appealing.

The great thing about disintegrate is that the things you use it on the most (undead/golems) have horrible fortitude saves and rarely save. Cyclonic Blast has a reflex save which tends to be higher on Undead, but still low on Golems.

Finger of Death's successful save hits as hard as Disintegrate's failed save, and costs 10 less SP.

However! It also is not effected by metamagic.

FoD has a terrible cooldown and won't work on non-living targets either though.
