The Advice Channel

All I can say is wow...

If you're wondering why people don't seem to know how to play this game sometimes, just stand in the marketplace and read the advice channel.

If you're reading this, it probably doesn't apply to you, but for the love of all that is holy please don't offer advice if you're not 100% sure that you are correct. If you are 100% sure that you are correct and a half-dozen other people provide clear, concrete examples of why you are wrong, please re-consider your position.

I often give advice when I am not 100% sure it is true, but this is normally when someone asks something and gets no reply and I always state I am not 100% sure but I think....

Friday night the sarlona advice channel was full of "where is x player I wants to pown him in pvp" then a guy who got on to talk about how his father can beat another guys father.. Its a wonder anyone bothers with general chat advice or trade either way with all the weirdness that goes on in it.

Have to disagree here.
1) Someone tried to tell someone else that the Bastard Sword was as good as a Khopesh for TWF
2) Telling someone that Extend and/or Imp Mental Toughness was a good feat choice for a Ranger
3) Con is a dump stat
4) etc...etc...Ad Nauseum

I always try to help those that ask stuff on the advice channel at the best of my knowledge.
Unfortunately I have to agree that sometimes the advice given by some people is...*shrug*

But it works both ways...sometimes the advice asked is just as ridiculous and shows no effort of trying to research it first...like yesterday someone was asking

"where is the 1st quest of sharn syndicate"
/someone points in right direction
10 minutes later
"where is the 2nd quest of sharn syndicate"
/someone points in right direction AND points out that it shows up on map
/log off
/log the next day
SAME PERSON "where is 3rd quest of sharn syndicate"
/facepalm

LOL after #3 its time to be mean. Real mean. Don't swear, or be racist or anything, but really, its time to point out just for utterly stupid the person is for asking, over and over and over.

One and 2 are fine - but really at those times the 'helper' should, instead of telling him where(hand holding) show/explain how to open quests, click quest, etc. - but at point #3, this guy has to learn that asking (Basically) the same question over and over with a s;light 'twist' each time clarifies his stupidity.

And by pointing out someome's stupidity, if you cannot do so without calling him names, being racist, or using foul language, then let another do it, no sense getting yourself banned.

When and if I'm in the mood to care at all, I give my advice through /tell. I would provide multiple perspectives when applicable and then tell them to make their own decisions based on their own preferences after carefully helping them understand the major advantage(s) and disadvantage(s). And I'm sure as hell Not going to waste my time publicizing it on /advice channel for strangers to respond with their narrow minded, obvious, ignorant and/or counter productive beliefs.

One of many fun things I've seen on advice channel: Some guy preaching about the inferiority of Paladins and how Clerics with 2 Fighter Splashes was the only way to go if you wanted a divine fighter.

See if I was at home I would take a couple screen shots and deminstrate how to block all advice chat from chats via. incoming messages. Since I am at work I will just say... what is advice chat?
