Well, you basically get the easy button at level 7 as a wizard, and you can use that button all the way until Amrath, along with other goodies like mass hold, FoD, sphere of dancing, etc.
    - I've been to so many raids, but I wouldn't call myself a vet, since I have yet to try out different strategies, tactics and classes in raids.
    - Main in sig, alts: Frostiee, Aliciae, Amandae

    WF Sorc. Maximize and Empower.

Level 6, take either Fireball or Acid Blast. Use it for almost everything except phasing undead.

Level 8, take Firewall. Use it for everything that doesn't die to two Fireballs (this isn't much). Use it instead of Fireballs in quests where shrines are sparse. Don't use it for anything else.

Level 12 or 13, take Mass Suggestion (take Reconstruct first if you have to). Use it on packs of dangerous mobs that are not required to die for quest completion. Then zerg past while they watch (if all charmed) or fight each other (if some saved or were out of the area of effect).

Level 18, take Wail of the Banshee for the mobs that don't die to a DBF crit.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.

It has a lot to do with the almighty persistent AoE spells like Wall of Fire and Ice Storm. (Wasn’t able to test this personally but it looks like Acid Rain and DoT’s got some decent upgrades.)

I went the 2 Rogue/18 Wizard (Pale Master) route on my TR and had a lot of fun with that. (I also had a ton of decent caster gear that supported a PM build.)

IMHO you should try a Wizard first. It will give you some opportunity to play with spells for your sorc life.

Make sure you have your Superior Erosion/Inferno/Freeze/etc Clickies and the appropriate Major Lore items.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

Persistant AoE spells are a very slow way of killing packs of mobs.

Sure, you *can* kill a mob pack with 8 Firewall ticks (14 seconds, 16 post U9 if they save against the first tick), or you can just throw two Fireballs and kill them all except the one that double saves. Ignore that mob, keep running.

Since dungeon scaling, two level-appropraite AoEs is now enough damage to kill nearly everything.

You should throw better persistant AoEs.

Rapid mindless repetition.. a good group that runs 24/7 can cap everyone in a week. A good fast, stable Internet connection, a good fast PC and most importantly a good fast mouse.

Also recommended : lots of sugar.

I've been in parties like that.. you have to have the type of mind that can stand rapid mindless repetition, zerged the same quest I think five or six times in a row, then ran to the next quest, did the same, ran to the next quest... like that.

You should throw better instant AoEs. They do 4+ times as much damage in general as one tick of a persistent one.

This is certainly true (although if they are 4x the power, and it takes 2 to drop scaled mobs, then 8 or fewer ticks of firewall would be sufficient). But the value of firewall has always been that it can kill more mobs at a time, you can kite 15+ mobs into it, but will be hard pressed to hit 1/2 that many without perching with a fireball, and less if you are just running thru (and even harder with lag). Both methods work, I just find contributing to lag by kiting till red alert, followed by relying on the lag-proof firewall to kill them all, to be easier.

I ran a Drow Wizard/Rogue until I finally landed a +4 INT Tome, then TR'd into what I believe to be my favored version of caster - Warforged 2 Monk 18 Wizard. (Archmage)

    * Evasion will give you a huge advantage and virtually double your hit points in many lightning bolt / fireball / trap ridden quests.

    * 2 Extra Feats (I took Lightning Reflexes and Toughness) from Monk levels

    * Of course WIS / CHA became dump stats and whatever I had left from INT & CON went into STR.

    * Levelling Gear: Start with Elders Cap & Charm from the Red Fens and later make an Elfcrafted Docent (Level 10 iirc) from Gianthold is awesome and the FrostFlame (or something like that from Lordsmarch Plaza Series) is a great upgrade at L12.

    Hope this helps.

[QUOTE=Darkrok;3750256]The update will change things a bit. Unless it's a very long quest pale masters will be able to do the death aura/undead form starting at level 6 instead of level 12. That will make it much easier to ignore all incoming damage while using Wall of Fire from a very early level - basically from the moment you have the Wall of Fire spell

Anyone else find this "logic" like something you'd find in a fortune cookie?

I invis'd a lot on my wiz lives--I cast more invis in Wiz King than firewall. Fast with no need for pots and a discreet bonus. In higher level quests Invis + Symbol of Persuasion/charm. Totally opposite from how I was brought up to play in which we kill everything:0 I learned these tactics from my guildie Rev, who TRd 6 or 7 times as casters in an amazingly fast time.

Well, unlike you, I don’t need 18 ticks of a Wall of Fire to kill something.
