In necropolis this happened to me twice. There's a debuff the shadows like to give to people, where if you reach 0 str you die. And all of the shadows also of course drain str when they hit you. And there's some annoying wizard wannabes casting ray of enfeeblement. You can figure out the rest.

Edit: This has nothing to do with the OP's issue probably, just clarifying things.

    Default It makes you wonder...

Stuff disappearing, people dying for no reason.. it's just weird that the stuff you grinded (ground?) for days to get, just disappearing for no reason.. or for people to have to res you or retrieve your stone because you died for no reason, that does seem a little unfair.

If you are talking about the lag monster feeding off your shared bank that's a different issue, with lag as reason.
Testing the bank with a minor item is a good caution atm, despite the annoyance.

Several people in a shroud run I was in several days ago claimed something similar happened to them during this run. I just assumed they sucked.

I blame either the Lawnmower Man (movie version) or Tron. Actually, probably not tron, but Sark or evil-CLU for sure.

    There is no haunting.

He came down with a case of Horditis(TM).

Rarely seen outside of the Khyber server, Horditis(TM) is a terrible affliction in which the character spontaneously enters the death state creating the soulstone.

Usually it occurs in the presence of a HordoToon(TM), but as this was on the Argonessen Server, I would suggest it erupts from a latent and suppressed desire to play on Khyber instead.

The Hordeath(TM) effect itself is random and there is no current treatment for this affliction. If this occurs to your character, the best course of action is to pay to transfer that character to the Khyber server and give all your stuff to Hordo.

Until then this disease with no known cure may continue to strike your character much to the amusement of your party-mates.

sometimes if you step off a short ledge and you grab the edge like you were hanging from it (and your toon is half in the ground) when you move to fix it you are thrown into the air and insta-killed.

if i remember there's a ledge in water works that does it all the time.

I think its the Devs blowing off some steam. Zoning into your instance and casting "Finger of Dev" on you for their own amusment.

Default Funny it was in Sins

Me and a mate were chatting about this just before our pre-update log-off.

I ran a 2nd life FVS through a round of solo (kinda, my m8 was at the door piking his completions :P) amrath elites not too long ago that was brought to a halt in Invasion by a serious of unexplained deaths.

I had a deathpact running, but was never given the auto-res option on each occasion (it happened twice in a row before i gave up on that one in disgust).

Checking the xp report showed me dying twice, though it was a single event, and the only thing i could find in the combat log (on the 2nd occurrence) was a 'killing by something' entry.

We gave up on it as a bad joke, and it's only in the last week or so that i've decided to run another fvs build through the same set of elites for giggles that prompted us to chat about it tonight (mainly along the lines of 'did you ever work out what it was, do you reckon it'll happen again this time).

Interesting to note it only happened to me in Invasion on elite, the hard run was cakewalked, and the other Amrath elites were no problem either (maybe a bit challenging, which is the main reason i was doing them, but nothing really off the wall happened in those).

Maybe a New Invasion thing? It would be interesting to see if anyone else has experienced the 'death ghost of invasion', and i'm kinda glad you brought it up in case some sort of explanation from someone that's worked it out comes about.

    Coit out~

I've seen it a couple of times in the last week. It looks like the usual "one person lags out, then everyone dies from mass acumulated damage" scenario of Shroud etc but the new development is that the person is able to still run around and kill stuff but take no damage from mobs until 30secs later when they suddenly explode.

In one particular case, the person went incapped but had a soulstone at the same time. When I picked it up they died again and I had two of their soulstones in my backback. Later on when I died and they picked up my stone, the message they recieved is that they'd picked up their soulstone, not mine. Pretty spooky.

    lol:

A couple of months back I died and was resed; Finished the fight and was picking up collectibles and my stone was still there. So I picked up my own stone.

Wrote it off as a novel Glitch at the time don't even remember the quest or character now.

I'm curious as to whether your death showed up in the XP report, since it didn't show up in the combat log. Did it dock you the 10% (if no one had died previously)? Did it record you as having died (twice)?

It recorded the first death, but the second death occured after completion (& i don't think they are logged once you've completed the quest objective)
